Class mapping

Class mapping

The class mapping is used to map the classes of FUNITEs with the ENGITEs. Class mapping applies only when the selected FUNITE and the ENGITE match their classes.

Examples

Consider the following:

  • If you create a pump and its mapping is from a functional pump to an engineering pump, the system finds the suitable mapping and applies it.

  • If you create a centrifugal pump and its mapping is from a functional pump to an engineering pump, the system traverses the engineering class hierarchy to find a matching parent mapping. If it finds a mapping for pump, it applies that mapping to the created centrifugal pump (child of pump).

  • If you create a pump and its mapping is from a functional pump to an engineering centrifugal pump, the data propagation fails because the centrifugal pump, which is a child of the pump cannot map to its parent class.

Attribute mapping

Attribute mapping is used to map FUNITEs with ENGITEs.

Examples

You can map attributes at multiple levels, as follows:

  • Functional pump to an engineering pump.

  • Functional pump to a part of an engineering pump.

  • Part of a functional pump to a part of an engineering pump.

  • Part of a part (and so on) to the nth-level part.

Attribute propagation behavior

If an attribute is mapped to a part of an engineering pump, the system:

  • Creates the part (and any required intermediate parts) when the association type is Can Have or Has Part.

  • Propagates the mapped attribute value to the attribute on the created part.

The data propagation continues to the nth-level part of the engineering pump when mappings and its eligible associations allow it.

The data propagation fails in the following cases:

  • When a mapped source part does not exist - If you map from a part of the functional pump, but that part does not exist on the selected FUNITE, the application displays an error message that identifies why the value was not propagated and which attribute failed.

  • When target part cannot be created - If you map from a functional pump to a part of the engineering pump, and the system cannot create the part, propagation fails. This can occur when the relationship between the part and the engineering pump is a reference association.

  • When there is active case data - All active case data values can be propagated from the functional pump to the engineering pump and, when mapped, to its parts.

    Note: You can configure mappings in engineering configuration module or in engineering module. When you configure the mappings in configuration module they are preserved for the project. However, when you configure them in the engineering module, the mappings last only for that session.
