Select Instrument Process Owners for Reporting

In most cases, the process owners of instruments are selected automatically from the items and connections they are connected to according to the following order of priority:

  1. Items decorated with the Process Equipment class.

  2. Items decorated with both the Inline item class and the Instrument class.

  3. Items decorated with Inline item class only.

  4. Items decorated with the Piping Network System/Piping Network Segment/Centerline classes.

Note: Whether either the Piping Network System, Piping Network Segment or Process Connection is reported as the process owner is controlled by the Piping Network Class setting (refer to Advanced Settings in the P&ID configuration settings).

  5. Items decorated with the Instrument class only.

For example, if an instrument is connected to both a Control Valve and a Primary Line, the Control Valve is automatically set as the process owner.

If an instrument is connected to items of equal priority, the type of connection will be the deciding factor, according to the following order of priority:

  1. Primary Lines.

  2. Process Instrument Connections.

  3. Signal Lines.

Automatically assigned process owners are changed automatically as items are added or removed from P&IDs.

Where process owners cannot be decided automatically, you can select them manually (see Assign Instrument). You can also overwrite any automatically assigned process owners if required. Manually assigned process owners will not be overwritten as a result of changes to the drawing unless you remove that association.
