You can assign roles to engineering classes. A role describes something that a class performs which can vary depending on context. For example, a Ball Valve is a type of Valve, but it can also fulfill the additional function of an Isolator.

Roles are fully user configurable and could be applied to Classes with the following scenarios as examples.

Functions - Valve performing isolation:

  • Class: Ball Valve

  • Primary function: Flow Control

  • Role: Isolator

Operating modes - Motor during emergency operation:

  • Class: Electric Motor

  • Normal role: Drive Motor

  • Emergency role: Emergency Actuator

Use the Class Roles part of the Classes window to add, view and delete class roles.
