Stiffener

This section describes the functionality available from the stiffener command.

In order to get early visual feedback, all stiffeners are created with a default profile type and parameters (10 100 10). The profile type and parameters are defined in the next step using the property grid.

Subfunction

Description

At Plane

Creates a stiffener at a plane axis or grid location.

If you select the option, the application displays a prompt in 3D View.

The prompt enables that you define the panel to create the stiffener at. You can enter the panel name, for example: /A102-FR60-1P.

Alternatively, you can select a panel in the 3D View.

Press Enter to accept the panel selection and to display a new prompt.

You can enter a grid name to define the stiffener location, for example, LP20 or LP-10, or LP5 +200. Press Enter to enable an additional grid entry. Or use a repetition term to define multiple grids as illustrated below:

For more information, see Repetition Term.

Alternatively, you can select a single grid or multiple grids in the 3D View.

Press Down Arrow to display further options.

Accept

Accepts the grid(s) selection.

Offset

Adds the given offset to any selected grid plane.

X

Changes the current grid axis to X grid in the prompt and displays the X grids in the 3D View.

Y

Changes the current grid axis to Y grid in the prompt and displays the Y grids in the 3D View.

Z

Changes the current grid axis to Z grid in the prompt and displays the Z grids in the 3D View.

Plane

Creates a stiffener at a specific, absolute coordinate.

Points

Creates a stiffener by defining three points. The application uses these points to generate a stiffener on an inclined plane.

Angles

Creates a stiffener by defining angular directions. Specify a location along the main axis, then set angles for the remaining two axes. The stiffener is created according to these angles.

2 Points + Angle

Creates a stiffener by defining two points and an angle.

Settings

Defines the stiffener designation. The change applies to all stiffeners created in the operation.

For more information, see Create stiffener at plane using grid.

At Intersection

Creates a stiffener at the intersection with other stiffeners.

Select a panel and the intersection stiffeners. Press Down Arrow to display further options. Select Accept. The application adds the stiffeners to the panel.

For more information, see Create stiffener at intersection.

Between Points

Creates a stiffener to connect two other stiffeners intersecting the panel.

Select a panel to create the stiffener on. Select the first set of stiffeners, then pick the second set of stiffeners.

Along Limit

Creates a stiffener along the mid-point tangent of a panel limit.

Note: The model geometry for panel limits need to be visible to allow for picking. For more information, see Visibility.

Select a panel and then select the limits on the panel.Press Down Arrow to display further options. Select Accept. The application adds the stiffeners to the panel and place them parallel to the mid-point tangents of the selected limits.

Around Hole

Creates a stiffener at either or both sides of a hole on the same panel.

Select a panel to create a stiffener on then select a hole, Straight Stiffeners around hole is the default method. You can create horizontal or vertical stiffeners on both sides or one side.

Press Down Arrow to display further options. The options enable to choose which side of the hole to create the stiffeners on, you can create Straight Stiffeners.

U

Stiffeners placed along the local U axis.

V

Stiffeners placed along the local V axis.

Min

Stiffener placed towards the lower end of the local axis.

Max

Stiffener placed towards the higher end of the local axis.

Both

Stiffeners placed on both sides of the hole.

Along Curve

Creates a stiffener on the selected curve.

Select a panel and then select curves located in a panel surface. Curves can either be local, defined in the panel, or global (common reference curves). When the selected curves are accepted, stiffeners are added to the panel.

By Point and Angle

Creates stiffener by defining a point and angle on panel.

Select a panel, then select a point on panel and specify the rotation Angle.

Arrangement

Creates a stiffener from a curve arrangement.

Select a panel and then Select an arrangement of profile trace type. When accepted, stiffeners are added along the curves of the arrangement. Applicable properties and limits are copied from the arrangement curve branches to the stiffener definitions.

Parallel

Creates a stiffener parallel to a limit or hole.

Note: The model geometry for panel limits need to be visible to allow for picking. For more information, see Visibility.

Select a panel and then select limits or holes on the panel. When the selected limits and holes are accepted, stiffeners are added to the panel and placed parallel to the geometry of the selected models.

After placing a stiffener, you can use grips to apply a limit to it. See Limit a stiffener or seam by plane through grips for more information.
