Propagate Changes

  • Last UpdatedAug 08, 2024

When a Design Template is modified, it may be necessary for the User to consider propagation of changes to make sure the latest version of the template is used.

Note:
Design instances may only be updated if the User has full access to modify each instance. If any instances are claimed by another User, or modification is prevented by Data Access Control then the update fails.

To update design instances, make sure the correct Design Template is highlighted in the Template Browser.

On the Design Templates tab, in the Tools group, click Propagate Changes to display the Propagate Changes window.

The name of the currently selected Design Template and the last modification date displays at the top of the Propagate Changes window.

The Template Instances part of Propagate Changes window displays a list of design instances for the currently selected Design Template and the current State of each design instance.

When a Design Template is updated, all design instances that do not reflect the latest Design Template are marked as Suspect in the State column of the Propagate Changes window.

The Messages part of the Propagate Changes window displays relevant messages for the selected design instance during the update process.

Show All

Select the radio button to display all design instances in the list of design instances.

Show Suspect Only

Select the radio button to display all design instances marked as Suspect in the State column in the list of design instances.

Show Failed Only

Select the radio button to display all design instances marked as Failed when the User updates the design instance.

Select All

Click to select all design instances in the list of design instances.

Display

Displays a view of all selected elements in the list of design instances.

To facilitate selection, the list of design instances may be sorted accordingly to the State column.

When design instances have been selected, click Update to propagate changes to the selected elements.

Click Apply to propagate changes to the selected design instances or Cancel to discard any inputs.

The State column of the list of design instances displays Updated or Failed.

To update the Design Template for an individual Equipment design instance, make sure the design instance is highlighted in the Model Explorer.

Note:
There are limitations on the Design Template update operation: Updated Design Template instances are replaced, dimensions and labels linked to these elements are no longer linked to an element.
The number of parameters on the primary Design Template must not change. If they have changed since the original Design Template was instanced, the design instance must be deleted and recreated.

On the Manage tab, in the Modify group, click Update Template to display the Update Template window.

Click CE to identify the currently selected Equipment element as the working element.

The name of the currently selected Equipment element (that is linked to a Design Template) is displayed at the top of the Update Template window. The last modification date of that element is displayed under the name.

The Equipment element must be linked to a primary Design Template via a valid Specification reference. An element that has been unlinked from a primary Design Template cannot be updated.

The name and last modification date of the primary Design Template are displayed in the Design Template part of the Update Template window, along with the current state:

Design Template is up to date

The design instance has been modified more recently than the Design Template, update is not required.

Update

The Design Template has been modified since the last design instance update.

Suspect

The Design Template and design instance were modified in the same session. It is not possible for the system to determine which was changed first within that session.

Click Update to update the Design Template for an individual Equipment design instance.

Messages relating to the update operation or any errors found during the update are displayed at the bottom of the Update Template window.

Click Cancel to discard any changes and close the Update Template window.
