Limits

This section describes the functionality available on the Hull Design tab in the Limits group.

To add limits you can use the following model elements as limits:

  • Surfaces,

  • Panels,

  • Stiffeners,

  • Face plates,

  • Pillars.

The applications annotates limits on the panel.

If you apply offsets to limits, you must select the limiting model or plane before you enter and apply the the offset.

When the application calculates the limits boundaries, it considers the thickness of materials.

Subfunction

Description

Add

Adds a limit to a single or multiple surfaces, panels, stiffeners, face plates or pillars.

If you select the option, the application displays a prompt in the 3D View.

Define panel

The prompt enables that you can enter one of the following:

  • Surface name,

  • Panel name,

  • Stiffener name,

  • Face plate name,

  • Pillar name

    The names can be entered as available in the Model Explorer.

    Alternatively, you can select a single or multiple panels in the 3D View which limits .

    Press Enter to display a new prompt.

    Alternatively you can press Down Arrow to display further options:

Accept

Accepts the panel(s) selection.

After accepting, the application displays a new prompt.

Define the limiting model

The prompt enables that you can define the limiting model. Enter a model which have been given a name (manually or by auto naming). The name is always starting with a /, for example, /MAINHULL.

Alternatively, you can select the limiting model in the 3D View.

Press Enter to confirm the entry of a limit or press Down Arrow to display further options.

Grid

Adds limits using an axis grid.

The application displays a new prompt.

Plane

Adds limits by using plane axis.

The application displays a new prompt.

Press Down Arrow to display further options.

X

Changes the current grid axis to X grid in the prompt and displays the X grids in the 3D View.

Y

Changes the current grid axis to Y grid in the prompt and displays the Y grids in the 3D View.

Z

Changes the current grid axis to Z grid in the prompt and displays the Z grids in the 3D View.

You can enter a grid name in the prompt or alternatively select a axis coordinate in the 3D View.

Points

Displays a new prompt to define a limiting plane specified by three points.

Enter the coordinates for Point 1 or alternatively select a point in the 3D View. Press Enter to confirm Point 1 and to display the next prompt.

Enter the coordinates for Point 2 or alternatively select a point in the 3D View. Press Enter to confirm Point 2 and to display the next prompt.

Enter the coordinates for Point 3 or alternatively select a point in the 3D View. Press Enter to confirm Point 3 and to display the next prompt.

Angles

Displays a new prompt to define a limiting plane specified by two angles.

Enter the distance along the current axis or alternatively select a point in the 3D View to define the distance. Press Enter to confirm the distance and to display the next prompt.

Enter an angle value in degree. Press Enter to confirm the value.

You can define another angle in the same way.

2 Points + Angle

Displays a new prompt to define a limiting plane specified by two points and an angle.

Enter the coordinates for Point 1 or alternatively select a point in the 3D View. Press Enter to confirm Point 1 and to display the next prompt.

Enter the coordinates for Point 2 or alternatively select a point in the 3D View. Press Enter to confirm Point 2 and to display the next prompt.

Enter an angle value in degree. Press Enter to confirm the value and to display the next prompt.

Elements

Define limits by selecting models in the 3D View.

The application displays a label in the 3D View for every defined limit, for example:

If you have defined multiple limits and press Down Arrow, you find additional options to modify the last limit:

Last Limit Offset

Creates an offset on the limit.

The application displays a new prompt.

Insert an offset value in mm. Press Enter to conform the value and display a new prompt.

Remove Last

Removes the last defined limit from the panel.

After accepting (Down Arrow > Accept) the defined entries and limits, the applications asks you to select the panel part you want to keep.

Hover over the panel to highlight the different parts of the panel.

In this example, you hovered the mouse over the green part. If you select the green part and press Enter on the keyboard, the application removes the left over from the panel and stores the defined limits on the panel.

If the panel can only be limited in one way by the given limits, the application omit the step,

Remove

Removes limits from a panel.

All

Removes all limits from a selected panel and recreated the panel to its initial size in the 3D View.

Unused

Removes an unused limit from a selected panel.

In the 3D View, select a panel you want to remove limits from. Press Enter.

The application removes the limits from the panel.

Reset

Resets the panel limits for panels which have limits added.

From Space

Refers to panels created inside zones connected to spaces. If you have added limits to the space, the application removes the limits to fit the original space. If you update the space the panel is updated with the new space limits.

From Surface

Refers to panels created at limited surfaces. If you have added limits to surfaces, the limits are removed to fit the original surface limits. If you update the surface, the panel is updated with the new surface limits.

In the 3D View, select a panel you want to reset limits from. Press Enter.

The application resets the limits from the panel.
