Dynamic Snapping

The dynamic snapping that is enabled by default may not work very well on imported models, as the application will try to dynamically identify snapping points when you move the cursor over the model. With imported models containing large amounts of geometry elements this may take a long time, fo example while taking measurements and give the appearance of the mouse cursor lagging as it is moved across the model.

For this case it is recommended to disable the dynamic element snapping functionality and only enable when needed using the Object Snaps & Pline Filters window. For large models it may work best to zoom in closely before enabling the element snapping, thereby reducing the amount of objects that the mouse will pass over.

On the Home tab, in the Display group and select Object Snaps to display the Object Snaps & Pline Filters window.

Another opportunity to optimize the performance of mouse movements can be to minimize the size of the snapping aperture while working with large imported models. This will result in a smaller set of geometry being analyzed as the mouse moves over the model in the 3D canvas. The size of the snapping aperture can be adjusted in the Snap Settings window. On the Project tab, select Options, View then Selection and Snaps to display the Snap Settings window.
