The creation of symbol templates is an administrator task, refer to Create Symbol Template for further information.

The creation of Isodraft templates is an administrator task, refer to Create Isodraft Symbol Template for further information.

Note:
Isodraft symbol templates can also be imported.

Select the required drawing type, for example, Backing Sheet, Overlay Sheet, Symbol Template, Isodraft Sheet Template, or Sheet Template (Supports).

If Backing Sheet or Overlay Sheet is selected, you must select a Template Type from the drop-down list to filter the available Templates.

When the required drawing type and (where applicable) the template is selected, click Create to display a Create window. For example, Create Overlay Sheet.

The Create windows are very similar to the Hierarchy Browser window. Refer to Create Drawing Sheet from Hierarchy Browser or Open Window for further information.

You can browse the hierarchy to select the library element that the new element is to be created under (refer to Database Hierarchy for further information).

Either input a name in the Name field, or leave it blank if the element is to be assigned a default name.

Click Create to create the new element. A new element is created and opened.

Note:
Many attributes of the new elements (for example, sheet dimensions) are inherited from the library element they are created under. Refer to Standard Model Library Manager for further information.

Use the drawing and annotation facilities (refer to Add and Modify Drawing Objects and Add Annotation for further information) to create, for example, the required symbol or backing sheet borders.

The new element can then be added to drawing sheets:

  • Backing sheets can be assigned to a sheet automatically when created, either inherited from the owning drawing or taken from a selected template. It can subsequently be changed if required, for example, with the Properties window.

  • To add symbols to a drawing, refer to Add Symbols to Drawings for further information.

  • To add an overlay to a drawing, refer to Add Overlays to Drawings for further information.
