Partial Update Design

When using Draw in Model, or modifying Single Line Representation widgets in Draw, partial update design functionality is available. Normally, modifications in the design are propagated into a 2D drawing sheet by using the Update Design functionality, usually invoked by user. The Update Design functionality can be used in various ways as a tool on the ribbon or as a command line operation. All the design elements referenced by a 2D drawing sheet (or part of a sheet, for example, a view) are updated as a result of an Update Design operation. For example, all referenced design elements are updated.
Partial Update Design performs an update to the 2D drawing canvas for individual design elements as they are modified and not for all referenced design elements, as with Update Design. The update mechanism is invoked automatically when design elements are modified in the Model and does not require any call for update by the user. To enable Partial Update Design functionality, Automatic Update Design must be turned on.
Note:
In Draw in Model, all views in every opened sheet are considered for Partial Update Design when design
elements are modified. This is a change from earlier versions that only affected a
single current owner view.
The required conditions to operate Partial Update Design are:
-
Automatic Update Design must be turned on. Refer to Status Bar for further information.
-
Only views on open drawings are affected.
-
The modified, deleted or created design element must be included in the draw list of a given 2D drawing view (that is, it would be affected by a full update design in that view).
-
The partial updates are persisted by savework, but a full drawing update must be performed before the drawing is issued or exported.
The purpose of the Partial Update Design functionality is to synchronize the 3D Model view updates with the 2D drawing canvas. Design element modifications that are performed in 3D Model views should automatically affect 2D drawing views in open drawings. However, the fact that only modified design elements are updated by Partial Update Design means that the view can become distorted in the sense that surrounding design elements are also affected and should really be redrawn but are not. Distortion is evident typically in views set for hidden line removal or views set for symbolic representation. A real rendered design is obtained only through a complete Update Design operation, which should be performed before the drawing is issued or exported.
