Set up and Manage DGN Export Settings

You can define multiple export configuration sets to store settings for the export of drawings to a DGN file. You can add, modify, copy or delete export configuration sets.

On the Project tab, select Export Settings, select Export to DGN from the Select Export Type drop-down list to display the DGN Export Settings window.

The list of configuration sets displays the available export configuration sets. Select a configuration set to display the settings. Non-editable configuration sets are indicated with a Lock icon.

Select Export Type

Allows you to define the exported file format. Click the arrow icon to display a drop-down list.

Select the required export file format from the drop-down list.

Add Configuration Set

Allows you to add an export configuration set. Click to display the Add new config set window.

Input a Name for the configuration set and click OK. The added configuration set displays in the list of configuration sets.

Copy Configuration Set

Allows you to add an export configuration set as a copy of an existing configuration set. Click to display the Copy config set window.

Input a Name for the configuration set and click OK. The copied configuration set displays in the list of configuration sets.

Delete Configuration Set

Click to delete the selected export configuration set from the list of configuration sets. A confirmation window displays asking you to OK the deletion. Click Yes to delete the selected style.

Show Advanced settings

Use the slider to add or remove the advanced settings from the display.

Version

Allows you to define the exported file type version. Click the arrow icon to display a drop-down list.

Select the required export file type version from the drop-down list.

Size

Allows you to define the size of the paper. Click the arrow icon to display a drop-down list.

Select a pre-defined scale size for the exported file, for example, ISO A3 or ISO A4, or select Auto size paper to compute a custom paper size using the Paper ScaleUp field and the extents of the exported data.

Plot style

Allows you to define the color, fill and line style settings for the export. Click the arrow icon to display a drop-down list.

Select Default from the drop-down list, the color, fill and line style settings are not changed.

Select Monochrome from the drop-down list to export all colors as black and white.

Select Greyscale from the drop-down list to export all colors as greyscale.

As well as the default plot styles provided with the product, additional plot styles can be created. Refer to Plot Style for further information.

Cutmarks

Select the check box to export the file with cutmarks.

Paper Frame

Select the check box to export the frame.

Paper ScaleUp

Input a value in the field to define a scale factor for the exported file or select a scale factor from the drop-down list.

The Paper ScaleUp field becomes active if Auto size paper is selected when you specify the desired output size.

Border

Input a value in the field to define the border width. 0mm indicates no border.

Export white graphics

Select the check box to export all graphics as white, in order for them to be seen in a viewer with a black background. The default is to export all graphics as black.

Show View and Region Frame

Select the check box to include the frames of all View frame owners (for example, Views and Regions) in the exported output, if they are enabled in Draw.

The following options are only available when you select Show Advanced settings.

Annotation Mapping

Select the check box to map annotation entities to equivalent AutoCAD/Microstation entities, if available. If a good equivalent entity is not available, the export reverts to the basic (exploded) version for that entity.

Blanking

Select the check box to export labels and dimensions with blanking, if you enabled blanking for the Draw element. Refer to Label and Dimension Blanking for further information.

Seed File

Select the check box to associate a seed file with the exported output.

Click Select Seed file and browse to the required seed file.

If enabled, the specified seed file is used to configure the export settings.

Use Grouping Rules

Select the check box to use grouping rules for the export. Edit Grouping rules becomes active.

Click to define the grouping rules for the export. Refer to Edit Grouping Rules for further information.

Assign levels by rule

Select the check box to use level rules for the export. Edit level rules becomes active.

Click to define the level rules for the export. Refer to Edit Level Rules for further information.

Use backing sheet level

Select the check box to export the backing sheet to a specified level.

Input a value in the field to define the level for the exported backing sheet.

Default level

Input a value in the field to define the default level for exported elements.

Linked external image file

Select the radio button to export a DGN file with linked PNG files. Note that if a linked PNG file is moved or deleted, the image is not rendered on the DGN file.

Embedded OLE object

Select the radio button to export a DGN file with embedded objects. The exported file size is larger than the Linked external image file option.

Embedded indexed palette bitmap

Select the radio button to export a DGN file with colors modified to use the DGN color palette. A smaller file size is exported but the quality and color of the file may be reduced. The example displays the quality and color differences between an embedded OLE object and an indexed palette bitmap.

Auto Preview

Select the check box to update the preview as the export settings are changed, by default.

Preview

Displays a preview of of the exported file. You can zoom in and zoom out.

Save Settings

Click to save the current export settings.

Restore Defaults

Click to restore the default export settings.
