Create a Grid Ruler
-
On the Common Reference tab, in the 3D Work Space group, select the Grid Ruler icon.
Alternatively, select the area under the Grid Ruler icon to open a menu that contains more specific Grid Ruler functions (see Functional Overview), and make a selection.
A ruler shows along the default axis when you hover your cursor over an area inside the 3D View.

-
Select the area in the 3D View you would like the Grid Ruler to be placed.
The grid ruler is created with a default length which is either the extents of the grid system, or the work surface box if an active work surface is set.

The new GRDRLR element displays in the Model Explorer.
Modify the position or length of the Grid Ruler
-
Double click the grid ruler to display grips.
A blue box (position handle) appears at the center of the Grid Ruler.
Blue arrows (end grips) appear at both ends.

-
Select and drag the position handle to move the grid ruler. Select and drag either end grip to lengthen or shorten the Grid Ruler.
Alternatively, any position values can be entered in the property grid, or in the command window, to change the position of the ruler.
Note: If an active work surface is set, the Grid Ruler remains constrained to that work surface plane and cannot be moved or changed.
