The results of a search can be sent to the reporting tool for formatting. A report layout can be used as a basis for reporting frequently saved searches.

  1. Right-click on any column heading in the search results and select Save as Report Design.

  2. The Quick Report window displays, select a layout template for the quick report.

    Note:
Group sorting applied to search results (using the Grouping menu option and associated functionality) is not applied to quick reports generated from search results.

  3. The Report Designer window displays, asking if a default layout should be applied to the quick report.

  4. Select Yes to automatically place the fields from the search results into a system generated table placed directly in the quick report. Select this option if the search results contains a small number of fields.

If Yes is selected, the columns displayed in the search results are automatically placed in a system generated table on the report.

Select No when using a saved search with a selected layout template which is designed for use with the search results, the default layout will overwrite layout template.

Select No for more control over the placement of the search results fields in the quick report.

If No is selected, the fields from the saved search can be dragged and dropped from the Field List window onto the report layout.

The quick report preview includes all data supplied by the search results. The Data Source, Scope and Run functionality is disabled in a quick report preview. The Data Source functionality is not required as the source data for a quick report is the search results. The Scope is defined in the search. The Run functionality is not required, as a quick report can be exported from the preview, which in a quick report contains all of the data from the search results.

A quick report can only be saved as a layout template because there is no binding to a data source. Save the quick report layout to use it again for any search results where the column headings match, as the column heading is used to identify where to place search results on a report layout.

For example, the Name search results column

is placed in the layout template label mapped to the Name field.
