Structural Simplification

  • Last UpdatedOct 26, 2023
  • 4 minute read

Structural simplification can be used to substitute a complex structure with an equivalent GENSEC of similar rigidity and strength. The example displays a structure that is replaced with a beam in the exported STD file.

The idealized model is created and displays in the 3D view.

On the Export Options part of the SAI Export Form window, click Show Simplification Form to display the Idealized Simplification window.

Simplified ISECT

Displays the simplified ISECT elements and the associated ISECT elements in the idealized model by name, number and specification reference.

Profile Specification

Sets the profile specification for the created simplified ISECT element.

Generic Type

Sets the generic type for the created simplified ISECT element.

Profile

Sets the profile for the created simplified ISECT element.

Set ISECT Specification

Modifies the profile specification, generic type and profile of the currently selected simplified ISECT, using the values in the drop-down lists.

Create Simplified ISECT

Creates the simplified ISECT between two picked INODES. The idealized model is updated in the 3D view.

The simplified ISECT is added to the Idealized Simplification window.

Add ISECT

Select an option from the drop-down list and click to associate ISECT elements with the currently selected simplified ISECT element. The associated ISECT elements are replaced with the simplified ISECT element in the exported STD file.

CE

Adds the currently selected ISECT element to the Simplified ISECT grid.

Pick

Adds ISECT elements to the Simplified ISECT grid using a graphical pick in the 3D view.

You are prompted to Pick an ISECT. <esc> to exit

Click to identify the ISECT element to add.

The prompt is repeated, allowing you to identify multiple ISECTS to add.

Press ESC to end the command.

Selection

Adds the currently selected ISECT elements in the 3D view to the Simplified ISECT grid.

The associated ISECT elements are indicated with brackets in the 3D view.

The associated ISECT elements display in the ISECT Numbers column of the Simplified ISECT grid.

Remove ISECT

Select an option from the drop-down list and click to remove ISECT elements associated with the currently selected simplified ISECT element.

CE

Removes the currently selected ISECT element from the Simplified ISECT grid.

Pick

Removes ISECT elements from the Simplified ISECT grid using a graphical pick in the 3D view.

You are prompted to Pick an ISECT. <esc> to exit

Click to identify the ISECT element to remove.

The prompt is repeated, allowing you to identify multiple ISECTS to remove.

Press ESC to end the command.

Selection

Removes the currently selected ISECT elements in the 3D view from the Simplified ISECT grid.

Delete Simplified ISECT

click to delete the currently selected simplified ISECT element.

STD Output

Simplified ISECT information is output to the STD file when the idealized model is exported. Replaced ISECT information is not output to the STD file. For example:
