Editing the Node Group

  • Last UpdatedFeb 06, 2025

As the group is built, a set of numbered nodes are created to represent significant points along the stream. Each node has a sequence number, a reference to a 3-D element and an alternate Type which maps onto one of the APS flare symbol types. This mapping is done automatically as the model is built but, in some case such as ignoring unwanted nodes or changing symbol type some may need to be changed.

From the Process Simulation Interface window, select Edit Nodes, the Node Details window is displayed.

Note
Checking the Navigate to selected Node check box can be used to center the graphics in the 3D view of the currently selected node.

Although the window is called Node Details the only field which can be edited is the SimType as this allows the user to change the symbol or omit a node by setting its SimType to Ignore. The concept of Ignoring a node is to omit it from the final output. When the Node Editor window is displayed, ignored nodes are shown in Orange.

Ignored Nodes

It may not have been obvious during the model construction example but two of the branches had branch to branch connections and in the APS model these are not relevant, but they had to be modelled as nodes to maintain continuity. These are automatically built with an ignored SymType and all ignored nodes are highlighted in orange on the Edit Nodes window.

The two examples below show the branch connections for FP1/B1 and FP1/B2 in the Node Details window these are ignored automatically

Other examples of ignored nodes

The purpose of creating a process simualtion model is to represent flow streams, so some design elements would never be included in the flow model. In the example below the drain and small bore bypass would not normally be considered in the larger flow model so they can be removed by changing the SimType of nodes 10, 11 and 13 to Ignore.

Note
There is an option in the settings which removes ignored Node labels from the graphics. If this is set, changing a node to ignored will remove its label from the graphics.
