Minimizing changes to the database on Import are not as critical because we are changing the model anyway. However, only elements that are new or modified will have the Import date/time values set. Elements that are identical between the exiting model and the incoming model will not be affected. If necessary, the Modification and Creation date/time values are taken from the ABS file. Again, to minimize the time difference a database SAVEWORK is executed as soon as possible after the model import and merge. However, for large models, the time difference between Importing and SAVEWORK can be significant.
The critical time interval in this process is the time taken to compare and merge the models. This is also affected by the response time of the user to the screen prompt asking whether to proceed with the import process. f he should go for a coffee during the import, and come back to see the screen prompt, OK to Merge? all this time will be accumulated in the import process.
