Modify Joint

Modifies the catalogue specification associated with each joint. For example, a web cleat or a welded joint.

Modify Joint Specification

Modifies the joint specification.

You are prompted to Select section(s)

Note:
The prompt does not display if the section elements are already selected.

Click to identify the sections that contain joints to be modified and press Enter. The joints are highlighted in the 3D view, each joint displays as a joint pin.

The connection type and selection status of each joint is indicated by the joint pin colour.

  • Cyan = Subordinate joint

  • Orange = Dominant joint

  • Yellow = End datum joint

  • Red = Selected joint (dominant, subordinate or end datum).

Refer to Dominant and Subordinate Connections for further information.

You are then prompted to Select joints

Click to identify the joints to be modified and press Enter to display the Modify Joint window.

The Modify Joint window allows you to associate a catalogue specification with the currently selected joints and modify the dimensions of the joint component parts.

Select Joints Graphically

Click to remove all joints from the current selection and reselect joints using the 3D view.

Select Joints from List

In some cases, joint pins can overlap in the 3D view, which makes them difficult to select. Click to turn on or off the list display of available joints owned by the currently selected sections.

The number of currently selected joints displays adjacent to the icon.

Select the required check boxes to select individual joints.

Hover the mouse over a joint to display a tooltip message indicating the joint name and the two sections to which it is connected.

Select a joint to highlight the two sections to which it is connected in the 3D view.

Specification

Select from the drop-down list to display all the available groups of joint component covered by a specification. Once a specification has been selected from the drop-down list, the Joint Group and Joint galleries are automatically populated with joint group and joint components available for selection.

Note:
An automatically selected joint is displayed as Unset in the specification and can be modified to a standard joint using the drop-down list.

Joint Group

Select from the gallery to display all the available joint components. Once a group has been selected, the Joint gallery is automatically populated with the joint components available for selection.

Joint

Select a joint component from the gallery. Once a joint has been selected, the Design Parameters fields are automatically populated with default values.

Design Parameters

Input values in the fields to modify the dimensions of the joint component parts.

Include Weld Geometry

Select the check box to include the weld geometry for a welded joint.

Note:
The functionality is only available for welded joints created from catalogue joints. The functionality is not available for welded joints created from template joints because the welds must be included in the template.

The example displays a welded joint created from a catalogue joint. The weld geometry displays in the 3D view.

The connection status of welded joints can be inspected and modified using the Connection Review window. Refer to Review Connections for further information.

Detail

Click to display a detailed image of the joint. The image window displays a detailed description of the joint geometry and the different parameters and variables that can be applied to the joint.

Click Apply to accept the joint component settings.

You are prompted to Set specification

Press Enter to associate the joint specification with the currently selected joints.
