Import

Use the functionality available from the Import window to specify the Import Settings.

  1. Select the required owing element, site or zone in the Model Explorer, on the Import window, click CE to populated the Select Owner field with the currently selected element in the hierarchy or type the name of the owner, site or zone into the Select Site or Zone field.

  2. Select how you want to import the model from the drop-down list:

    • Equipment

    • Volume

    • Sub Equipment

    • Sub-Volume.

  3. The Import As Primitives check box is checked by default.

    If the input file format is selected as *.fbm then the option ‘Import As Primitives’ is checked and disabled.

  4. To save a support log, type in the location or browse to the location. If you do not want to save a support log, click to uncheck the Save Support Log check box (checked as Default).

    To save a Simplified CAD file, type in the location or browse to the location. If you do not want to save a Simplified CAD file, click to uncheck the Save Simplified CAD File check box (checked and disabled as Default). To enable Save Simplified Log file checkbox uncheck the Save Support Log checkbox. The Simplified STEP or FBM and CAD file will be copied to the same location.

    To save a log (Brief or Full), type in the location or browse to the location. If you do not want to save a log, click to uncheck the Create Log File check box (checked and disabled as Default). To enable Create Log File checkbox uncheck the option Save Support Log. The default log type will be saved as Brief. Brief or Full Log gets copied to the same location.

    Note:
    If the input file format is selected as *.fbm then the option Save Simplified CAD File is unchecked and disabled.

  5. Type in the required tolerance (range limited to 0.1 to 20mm).

    Note:
    If the tolerance box is blank a system default tolerance is used which is 3mm if the “Import as Primitives” is selected, if unchecked the default tolerance will be set to 10mm.

  6. Storage

    Use the Storage part of the Settings window to specify the number of elements contained in each ZONE.

    Select the Limit no of import elements per level check box (unchecked by Default). A valid number of import elements per ZONE value must be entered.

    The default number of import elements per ZONE setting is 100. A value of less than 25 or more than 1000 cannot be entered.

  7. Select Import to start the Model Simplification process. The Import Results window is displayed with a progress bar and messages displays the progress of the import process. Or click Back to return to the Import window.

The progress of the import and any errors and/or messages can also be viewed here.

Select Restart to return to the Source window.

Note:
During the second import phase that is, while the simplified model is being written to the database, E3D Design cannot be used for other tasks.

Once the import is complete the message window is also populated with the paths for the Results file, Simplification process summary log and other relevant information you may require.

The simplified model is also displayed in the 3D view.
