Rules

Use the Rules part of the Rule Manager window to create and modify DRULE elements.

Note:
Some columns and options are only available for certain rule/rule set purposes.

Rules can be modified by editing cells directly in the grid. Any modifications are applied to the database immediately.

Rule Name

Displays the database name of the DRULE element.

Rule Purpose

Displays the purpose of the DRULE element. This indicates the attribute that the rule sets when it is run. For example, if the purpose is DESP, the rule sets a design parameter on the component it is run on.

The rule purposes available depend on the rule set purpose:

  • Rulesets with purpose JOIN, SFIT, TMPL or WDETcan only contain design parameter rules with a purpose of DESP.

  • Rulesets with purpose SPRE or WSELcan only contain specification reference rules with a purpose of SPRE.

  • Rulesets with any other purpose, or an unset purpose can contain rules with any purpose. For rules in WSEL rulesets, this description is displayed in the Weld Active Properties group in Model.

Rule Description

Displays a description of the DRULE element.

Rule Attribute (ATTR rules only)

Specifies which attribute an attribute rule sets. Sets the rulatt attribute. The specified attribute must be valid for the element the rule is evaluated against. UDA attributes can be chosen provided they are defined in the database.

Note:
Attributes name and lock cannot be set by the rules engine.

Data Key Description (DESP/SPRE rules only)

Specifies the design parameters the rule is available for and sets the dkeyarray attribute. If an element with a dataset containing design parameters has an rlsref attribute pointing to this ruleset, the design parameters are available to select from a valid list in the column.

A single rule can be used by multiple parameters. For example, a rule assigned to a bracing joint can set a design parameter for the bracing plate thickness and a design parameter for the stiffener plate thickness to the same default value.

New Rule

Creates a DRULE element in the database.

Copy Rule

Create a new rule as a copy of the currently selected rule, including logical expressions and rule checker settings.

Delete Rule

Deletes the currently selected rule.

Move Up

Moves the currently selected rule up the order in the rules grid.

Move Down

Moves the currently selected rule down the order in the rules grid.

Add Data Key

Adds the data key description column to the rules grid.

The functionality is only available for rules with a DESP purpose.

Remove Data Key

Removes the data key description column from the rules grid.

The functionality is only available for rules with a DESP purpose.
