Extruded

Creates an extruded surface from a selected planar curve. The surface is extruded along the normal of the curve location plane by a specified distance.

The resulting surface is created as an editable parametric surface (PSURF), regardless of the curve geometry.

Note: In the interactive view, the extrusion direction is limited to the X, Y or Z axis. By default, it is on the axis closest to the actual extrusion direction.

Create an Extruded Surface

  1. On the Common Reference tab, in the Create group, select Surface then select Extruded from the dropdown list.

  2. Select a curve.

    This is used as the profile curve.

    The prompt Select Extrusion Distance along Normal or appears:

    By default, the surface is extruded along the curve’s normal direction.

  3. To change the extrusion direction:

    1. Press the down arrow.

    2. Select an available main axis, or choose Vector to define a custom direction.

      The Vector option allows you to create inclined surfaces based on any planar curve.

      Note: Available main axis options (X, Y, or Z) are automatically filtered based on the curve's location. The Vector option is always available.

  4. To specify the extrusion distance, either:

    • Enter a value in the Distance: field.

    • Select a location in the 3D view to set the distance interactively.

    If Vector is selected, define the extrusion vector interactively, or enter a value for each axis:

  5. Press Enter.

    The surface is created and stored as a parametric surface.

    The surface remains topologically linked to the original profile curve. When you modify the curve's geometry, the surface is updated automatically the next time it is regenerated.

    You can change the extrusion distance at any time in the Properties window. If the extrusion direction is defined by vector, you can adjust the the extrusion vector in the Properties window. For more information, see Properties.
