Pipe/Branch

The Pipe/Branch allows you to map attributes from the Piping Network System decoration type in P&ID to the PIPE in AVEVA E3D Design.

Pipe/Branch has two matching methods - Name-to-name match and Attribute-to-name match. Name to name match is displayed by default.

Name to name match

The name of the selected pipe and its branch members in AVEVA E3D Design are matched against the P&ID element based on the Display name attribute selected from the General tab.

At the Pipe level, the Name-to-name match method searches for and identifies matching P&ID elements decorated as a Piping Network System, along with corresponding matched components, decorated as Piping Components. P&ID results are verified by checking the matched tag elements, ensuring they belong to the correct Piping Network System.

There are three options for Name-to-name match - Exact’, Containing’ or ‘Trimmed

Exact

This method compares the PIPE name, with no forward slash, against the selected Display name string for the P&ID elements decorated as a Piping Network System, to find a match.

Containing

This method works in a similar way to Exact, except that it takes the Display name string for the P&ID items and checks to see if it exists within the PIPE name.

Trimmed

This method takes the characters from the trimmed characters input, and removes them from the AVEVA E3D Design. and P&ID elements names, and then searches for a name match from the new strings.

Attribute-to-name match

This process allows the user to define key attributes related to the Piping Network System decoration type. For each P&ID item, the attribute is queried and converted to a string. The system checks to see if all the strings appear in the PIPE name. It then searches and displays results of :PipingNetworkSystem elements with selected attribute values which are the same as the selected AVEVA E3D Design Pipe attribute values.

Note:
In all cases, logically deleted P&ID items (Excel equals TRUE) are ignored when matching.
There is currently no comparison of branch elements.
Between two and five attributes can be selected for matching.
Attributes should be selected to provide the best chance of a unique match. For example Fluid Code and Sequence Number could be a minimum.

Attribute matching

The default Naming delimiter in Attribute matching, is a hyphen (`-`), and only a single character can be used as the delimiter.

The delimiter character is considered in three contexts.

  • A starting string, for example. 100-

  • A mid string, for example, -100-

  • An end string, for example, -100

Attribute comparison

Attribute comparison allows the user to map attributes from the Piping Network System decoration type to the PIPE. The P&ID attribute dropdown list displays all the attributes and associated attributes of the Piping Network System decoration type. The dropdown list of E3D attribute are the attributes and associated attributes of the E3D PIPE.

Select Compare to compare the selected attributes.

Select Allow update to allow the user to update the E3D attribute values after comparison.

Note:
Users can add an attribute from the dropdown list and select Active for matching to make it a valid selection.
If less than two, or more than five attributes are selected for comparison, the Apply button is disabled.
There is no relationship between P&ID attributes and AVEVA E3D Design attributes when matching.
The Apply button is enabled when you select Attribute-to-name match and a selection of attributes.
