Automatic Tagging

  • Last UpdatedAug 08, 2024
  • 5 minute read

Automatically generates labels for a set of design items that match a tagging rule (TAGR). Tagging rules are part of tag rule sets (TRSTs), which are part of tagging libraries (TRLBs).

The rule sets determine the type of label, and which design items the labels are applied to. For example, all nozzles that have a bore of >100mm and <300mm with a pressure rating of #150. After the labels have been created, they can be automatically updated to reflect any changes to the 3D model. When the labels have been created, their positions can be adjusted graphically.

You are prompted to Select element

Click to identify the element to apply automatic tagging to. The Automatic Tagging window displays.

The Automatic Tagging window allows you to specify the conditions for automatically generating labels for one or more views in a sheet.

Layer

Allows you to define a layer for the current view that can own GLAB and SLAB elements created using auto tagging.

Select from the drop-down list to define a layer for the current view.

Click to create a new automatic tagging layer. Refer to Create Automatic Tagging Layer for further information.

Note:
You can manually replace the Purpose attribute of the LAYE element from TAG[A-Z] to LAY[A-Z]. For example, LAYA, LAYB, LAYC. The LAYE cascade of attribute values is then used for label terminator type (Lterminator) and terminator size (Tsiztx) attributes instead of ByVStyle (because these form too many possible combinations to be reflected by the visual style). Other attributes are unaffected.

Library Tagging

Ref Library

Displays the tag rule library. An alternative library can be selected with the User Defaults window. Refer to Modify User Defaults for further information.

Tag Library

Select Piping from the drop-down list to define piping as the type of item required for tagging.

Select Equipment from the drop-down list to define equipment as type of item required for tagging.

Select Structural from the drop-down list to define structural as the type of item required for tagging.

Style

Select from the drop-down list to define a filtered item type for tagging.

The available list varies depending on the option selected from the Tag Library List.

Apply

Click to apply the Library Tagging settings. The Confirm window displays.

The Confirm window informs you that all current tags in the layer will be lost.

Click Yes to confirm the settings or No to discard any changes.

Local Tagging

Copy Library Style

Allows you to copy an existing Library Tagging Style and modify the tag rule, defining which elements are to be tagged.

Note:
After copying a library style, the Style field in Library Tagging is unset. If the Style field is already unset, no style is copied when Copy Library Style is clicked. The following error message displays:

Click OK.

Tag

Select from the drop-down list to define the item type to be tagged.

Rule

Select from the drop-down list to define the tagging rule from the local style.

Create

Click to create a new rule name based on the type of equipment to be tagged. For example, EQUIPMENT-1.

Further creation of a Local Tagging Rules using the same element type increments the suffix of the rule name. For example, EQUIPMENT-2.

Delete

Click to delete the Local Tagging Rule from the Rule list.

With

Allows you to enter selection criteria to filter the selected element types using standard operands.

For example, if the selected element type is Valve, an entry of STYPE EQ 'GATE' AND ABBORE GE 80 in the Width field would select only gate valves with a bore greater or equal to 80mm.

Template Type

Select Library from the drop-down list to define a library template type.

Select Local from the drop-down list to define a local template type.

Attributes

If Library is selected from the Template Type drop-down list:

Click to display the Select window.

You can browse and select the required STYM or TXTM.

Click Select to apply the selected template.

Click Cancel to discard any changes and close the Select window.

If Local is selected from the Template Type drop-down list:

  • Select Text Settings from the drop-down list to define the label text attributes. Refer to Label Text Attributes for further information.

  • Select Text Contents from the drop-down list to modify the label text. Refer to Modify Label Text for further information.

  • Select Frame from the drop-down list to define the label frame attributes. Refer to Label Frame Attributes for further information.

  • Select Leader Line from the drop-down list to modify the label leader line. Refer to Tagging Template Leader Line Line for further information.

Template Ref

Displays the currently selected element.

Apply

Click to create a tag rule (TGR) element and label primary (master) (GLAB) element beneath the LAYE element in the hierarchy based on the selected options.

Pline Name

Select from the drop-down list to define the p-line connection point.

Proportional Distance

The proportional distance is stored along the p-line from its start (0.0 to 1.0). The default value is 0.5 and can be altered. The initial value of 0.5 is the midpoint of the p-line.

Regenerate All Tags

Select the check box to regenerate tags using the current settings for either Library or Local Tagging.

Remove Redundant Tags

Click to remove all redundant tags.

Click Update to generate the tags.
