Anomaly location method

An anomaly is located by the following information in the anomaly record:
-
pipe_segment.
-
Volume offset from the upstream end of the segment.
Position of the anomaly is initially set either by the Controller or the utility or script that automatically inserts the anomaly.
The amount that the anomaly moves on a processing cycle, computed as change to volume offset is:
volume moved = total volume moving into the segment x slip factor
Note: One option for an anomaly is to set the slip factor to zero. This value is allowed, and will permit you to place a stationary anomaly at a specific position of the pipe. This could be used to mark a specified event at a particular place.
If the amount of movement moves the anomaly out of the segment, it moves into the next segment by the remaining amount. If flow moves into multiple segments downstream, a copy of the anomaly is made and each copy moves into a segment by the amount of volume movement assigned to each segment. In the case of a pig type anomaly, which cannot actually be split, the copy is still made if the system was not able to determine only one viable downstream segment. In this case, the Controller is notified using this alarm so that they can determine the pig’s exact location and delete the undesired clones:
Unable to determine downstream segment for anomaly {anomaly original name}. A clone has been created for each downstream segment
