Work with flow devices

Flow devices are attached to nodes inside a Flow Network topographical model. They provide two key pieces of information:

  • The type of product they are providing.

  • The direction of flow. This flow can be either injecting into the Flow Network, delivering product out of the Flow Network, or indeterminate (which means the direction of flow cannot be determined and is therefore considered both injecting and delivering at the same time).

With the information provided by flow devices, the direction of flow through a topographical model can be calculated. Injection devices push the direction of flow away from themselves, while delivery devices pull the direction of flow toward themselves. The direction of flow for all segments is stored in the fnet table in the column segments[SegmentNumber].state.flowdirection.
