Define Product Injection Verification and Control information on the Product Transfer Checking Record Source and Destination tabs

Configuring the Product Transfer Checking (flowXfer) record with Production Injection and Verification and Control information allows you to automatically check whether there are any incompatibilities between the contents of a product source (Virtual Flow Computer [virtualflowcomputer] or Batch Transfer [batchXfer]) and a destination Pipeline Station (node). Depending on the results of that comparison, the system will send an ON or OFF command to a status or multistate point to indicate if product injection is allowed.

To define Product Injection Verification and Control information on the Product Transfer Checking (Flowxfer) Source and Destination tabs

Note: When a Product Transfer Checking (flowXfer) record is being configured for product injection verification and control, the Source type must be specified as Virtual Flow Computer or Batch Transfer and the Destination type must be specified as Node. Otherwise, the system will fail to save the Product Transfer Checking (flowXfer) record, and instead generate an error message.

  1. In the Product Transfer Checking (flowxfer) Row Edit dialog, select the Source tab.

    The Source tab appears.

Source tab of Product Transfer Checking Record

  2. Select the Source Type as either Batch Transfer or Virtual Flow Computer (VFC).

  3. Click (...) to select the Source Reference.

    The Path Selector dialog appears.

  4. Specify the table and record for the source Batch Transfer or VFC of interest and select Accept.

For the purposes of Product Injection Verification and Control, no other fields are required to be specified on the Source tab.

  5. In the Product Transfer Checking (flowxfer) Row Edit dialog, select the Destination tab.

    The Destination tab opens.

To produce a configuration equivalent to the diagram shown below, the ADE Destination tab should be populated as shown in the flowxfer Row Edit dialog that follows the diagram.

  6. In the Destination tab, select a Destination Type of Node.

  7. In the Destination Reference field, select (...).

    The Path Selector dialog appears.

  8. Specify the table and record for the destination Node of interest. For more information on defining the values associated with Nodes, see Define Node records.

  9. In the Volume/Time (mins) field, select Time or Volume. If Volume is selected, the Upstream Zone, Downstream Zone, Upstream No Injection Warning Zone, and Downstream No Injection Warning Zone fields should be entered as volumes. When Volume is used, the volumetric units are assumed to be the same as the units specified in the unit profile for the selected source. If Time is selected, the Upstream Zone, Downstream Zone, Upstream No Injection Warning Zone, and Downstream No Injection Warning Zone fields should be entered as time in minutes.

  10. In the Upstream Zone field, enter the desired volume or time that will be used by the system to determine at what point before an incompatible product is expected to pass through the node should an OFF command be sent to indicate that the injection should be turned off.

A value of 0 means that the system will not observe an upstream no-injection zone.

  11. In the Downstream Zone field, enter the desired volume or time that will be used by the system to determine at what point after compatible product starts passing through the node starts should an ON command be sent to indicate that the injection can be turned on.

A value of 0 means that the system will not observe a downstream no injection zone.

  12. In the Upstream No Injection Warning Zone field, enter the desired volume or time that will be used by the system to determine at what point before the upstream no-injection zone begins should a warning event be logged.

A value of 0 means that no upstream warning is required.

  13. In the Downstream No Injection Warning Zone field, enter the desired volume or time that will be used by the system to determine at what point before the downstream no-injection zone ends should a warning event be logged.

A value of 0 means that no downstream warning is required.

  14. In the Status/Multistate Point field, select (...).

    The Path Selector dialog appears.

  15. Select the status or multistate device receiving commands.

  16. In the ON Command field, select (...).

    The Path Selector dialog appears.

  17. Select the command to automatically send to the status or multistate point to indicate that the injection can be turned on.

  18. In the OFF Command field, select (...).

    The Path Selector dialog appears.

  19. Select the command to automatically send to the status or multistate point to indicate that the injection should be turned off.

  20. In the Control Delay field, enter the amount of time (minutes) that the system should wait after it has sent a command to the status or multistate point before sending another command to the same point.

A value of 0 means that the system will not observe a wait interval.

Note: Ensure that you accurately specify the Control Delay based on typical batch sizes and flow rates for a given pipeline. Otherwise, a situation may arise where the system may not react to a change in product due to a long Control Delay.
