Understand input state assignment

  • Last UpdatedApr 24, 2025
  • 1 minute read

In this step an input state is assigned that depends on prior states and the reasonability of the delta or deltas that were calculated. The following table details the possible input states and their criteria.

Input State

Description

Normal

  • One delta was calculated. (Previous counter and last good counter were the same.)

  • The delta is reasonable.

Jump

  • Two deltas were calculated.

  • The previous counter to new counter delta is reasonable.

  • The last good counter to new counter delta is unreasonable.

Spike

  • Two deltas were calculated.

  • The previous counter to new counter delta is unreasonable.

  • The last good counter to new counter delta is reasonable.

Undetermined

  • One or two deltas were calculated.

  • Both deltas were unreasonable.

Note: A situation where two deltas are calculated and both are reasonable is not possible.

  • The number of consecutive times immediately prior to the current processing cycle that the state was Undetermined is less than or equal to the configured maximum (Maximum Bad Deltas on the Advanced Database Editor (ADE)).

Violation

  • One or two deltas were calculated.

  • Both deltas were unreasonable.

  • The number of consecutive times immediately prior to the current processing cycle that the state was Undetermined is greater than the configured maximum (Maximum Bad Deltas on ADE).
