Activate Trigger Configuration

Up to 20 status, multistate, analog, or rate points can be configured as event trigger points.

To activate Trigger Configuration

  1. To configure a trigger point using the Dynamic Alarms Adjustment Configuration tab, enter the settings in columns for the Activate Trigger row.

  2. If multiple triggers are in effect for the Dynamic Alarms Adjustment, select SUM or MAX from the Application Method of Adjustment dropdown menu.

    • If SUM is selected, adjustment from each trigger is added.

    • If MAX is selected, the maximum of all trigger adjustments in effect is used.

  3. Select Type first.

All other trigger control selections depend on what has been selected as the Type.

Selecting Any will trigger an alarm on any state change. After selecting Any, any change to the specified point would trigger the dynamic alarm limits.

Point Path Selection restrictions should be enforced based on Type selected.

  4. Associate the State field with Type State based trigger setting.

  5. Associate the Value and Comparison Operator fields with the Type Value based trigger setting.

  6. Using the dropdown for the Type column, select the type of trigger: State or Value.

    1. If the trigger type is State:

The table selected must be one of the following:

      • status

      • multistate

      • rate

      • analog

The field selected is irrelevant. The state of the trigger point is determined by the text of the message string in the RealTime database (RTDB) message set table, and defined in the base message that is currently assigned to the point as its current message.

    2. If the trigger type is Value:

You can only select analog. The field selected must be of a numeric type.

  7. If State trigger is selected:

    • Click (...) for the field in the State column to select the desired state alarm trigger.

After clicking (…), the Trigger State Selector appears. When the current state of the point changes to the state matching the configured triggering state, the adjustment to the alarm limit will be made.

Note: If analog is selected as a state-based trigger, it must be noted that the following options will not work and must not be selected: deviation, Rate of Change (ROC), or flatline. This is due to contingencies in AVEVA Enterprise SCADA software.

  8. If Value trigger is selected:

    1. Type the triggering value in the field of the Value column.

    2. Select the comparison Controller from the dropdown of the Comparison Operator column.

When the current value of the point field changes such that the relationship to the configured value becomes true when the comparison Controller is applied, the alarm limit change will be made.

    3. Using (…) for the field in the Point Path column, select the table, record, and field desired from the PLM Dynamic Alarm Path Selector. What you are able to select depends upon whether you have selected a State or Value trigger.
