Configure the Tank Configuration tab of the Tank record

The Tank Configuration tab is used to configure the information needed to track the volume counter.

Notes: The Level information supplied must never exceed the maximum value entered in the Strapping table. This is true whether you have elected to use the Legacy or Extended Strapping Type.

For example, assume the greatest Strapping table entry is a level of 30.5. This means that the Maximum Physical Level entry must not exceed 30.5. If a value that exceeds 30.5 is entered, you will receive an error message.

If Use Extended Strap is selected, you no longer need to configure the Level to Volume tab as the necessary information populates as part of the CSV file import process.

To configure the Tank Configuration tab of the tank record

  1. Open the tank record. For more information on opening a tank record, see Opening the Tank Record.

The tank Row Edit dialog appears.

  2. Select the Tank Configuration tab.

    The Tank Configuration tab appears.

  3. In the Maximum Physical Level field, enter the maximum level possible in the tank. The tank levels are defined in the Strap tab in the tank Row Edit dialog.

Note: It is strongly recommended never to surpass the Maximum Safe Level.

  4. In the Maximum Safe Level field, the maximum level to which the tank can safely be filled. This is the safe-fill limit, not necessarily the physical tank maximum level. This level is used to calculate the percentage full. This is an IV or a GSV, depending on the configuration of the Display Volumes field.

  5. In the Minimum Safe Level field, enter the minimum level to which the tank can safely be filled. This is the safe-empty limit, not necessarily the physical tank bottom. This volume is also used to calculate the percentage full. This is an IV or a GSV, depending on the configuration of the Display Volumes field.

  6. In the Display Volumes dropdown list, select a method for how the Tanking application presents the tank information and how the percent full calculations are performed.

  7. In the Average Flowrate Period field, enter a value to set how often the Tanking application calculates average flow rates. This time period should be greater than the length of the poll cycle.

  8. From the Throughput Type dropdown list, select how the throughput counters operate. The choices are the following:

    • Sum of In/Out

The Tanking application adds volumes both flowing into and out of the tank to the throughput counters.

    • Input only

The Tanking application only adds volume flowing into the tank to the throughput counters.

    • Output only

The Tanking application only adds volume flowing out of the tank to the throughput counters.

  9. In the Counter Rollover field, enter the value at which the resettable counter rolls over. This is used for both the indicated and gross standard counters.

  10. To enable the Gross Observed Volume (GOV) counters, select the Enable Counters checkbox.

  11. To enable the GSV counters, select the Enable Net Counters checkbox. If the GOV counters are disabled, you will not be able to select Enable Net Counters.

  12. In the Flowrate Smoothing Factor field, enter a value greater than 0.0 and less than or equal to 1.0. This value is used to tune the Basic Exponential Smoothing filter applied to the flow rate.

Note: Specifying a smoothing factor closer to 1.0 will produce an average that gives more weight to the current GOV Flow Rate. Whereas a smoothing factor closer to 0.0 will produce an average that gives more weight to the previous smoothed GOV Flow Rate. A value of 1.0 will produce a smoothed flow rate that is equal to the current flow rate.

  13. In the Product Type field, click (...) to select the product type of the current contents of the tank. The Tanking application uses this to determine which American Petroleum Institute (API) calculation to use.

Note: The Product Group, Maximum Physical Volume, Maximum Safe Volume, and Minimum Safe Volume fields are read-only. The Tanking application automatically fills in these fields when a record is saved.
