Adjusted Pressure, Elevation Pressure, Adjusted Maximum Operating Pressure (MOP) and Temperature profile

Pressures on this profile are expressed as weight per unit area indicated by the profile Y-axis. Where English measurement is used, this is usually pounds per square inch. Where metric measurement is used, this is usually kilopascals. The following plots are on this profile:

  • Elevation Pressure

The Elev Pressure plot line shows the ground elevation along the pipeline as a pressure value. This plot is for information only. It changes based on the specific gravity/density of the commodity contained in the pipeline. This is the pressure created by a column of fluid having a height equal to the elevation. Density used to calculate the pressure comes from the product that is present at that location.

  • Adjusted Maximum Operating Pressure (MOP)

Sum of the configured maximum allowed casing pressure and Elevation Pressure.

The Adjusted MOP plot line shows the Adjusted MOP, also called the calculated MOP. This is the maximum allowable pressure in the line, standardized to sea-level. It is the sum of the Maximum Operating Pressure (MOP) and the elevation pressure.

Note: The adjusted pressure should never exceed the Adjusted MOP under normal operating conditions.

  • Gauged Pressure

This is the predicted pressure reading if a pressure gauge were present at the location. The Gauged Pressure plot line shows the telemetered pressure along the pipeline. This is the actual, measured pressure in the pipeline, with no compensation for elevation.

  • Adjusted Pressure

The Adjusted Pressure plot line shows the pressure along the pipeline, standardized to sea-level. This is the sum of the Elevation Pressure and the Gauged Pressure, and is used for all hydraulic profile alarms.

  • Temperature

This is the predicted temperature of the fluid in the pipe. The Temperature plot line shows the temperature along the pipeline.

Warning: Under normal operating conditions, the Adjusted Pressure plot line should never drop below the Elev Pressure plot line or rise above the Adjusted MOP plot line. In addition to the pressure profile, the Hydraulic Profile window displays the temperature in the pipeline, plotted against the distance along the pipeline.
