Understand telemetry failures

In the event of a communication failure, Metering will take the following actions:
-
If any rate point input into the application loses communication with the remote, it is flagged as stale, along with the Virtual Flow Computer (VFC) to which it is connected.
-
Zero volume change is assumed for the stale rate point, unless the VFC is put into simulation mode. In that case, the VFC is flagged as manual and a volume change is assumed from the rate point that accords with the overall VFC flow rate being simulated.
-
If there are other rate points assigned to the VFC that have maintained good communication with the associated remotes, they will continue to be processed normally.
-
A stale VFC will continue to have volume throughput processed, using either simulated volume or any volume change from good rate point data.
-
When communication to the stale rate is restored, any volume change missed during the outage is accumulated. Since the last good value gathered by the rate point’s associated volume counter is retained, subtracting the last good value from the newly polled counter will give the change in volume during the outage.
-
If a ticket switch should occur during the outage, no attempt is made to assign missed volume to the completed ticket. When communication is restored, all unaccounted-for volume is assigned to the currently active ticket.
