AVEVA Pipeline Operations for Liquids

Understand the Deviation Limits

  • Last UpdatedApr 24, 2025
  • 3 minute read

The deviation limits in effect can be changed from the configured limits by the Dynamic Alarm Limits utility. The Deviation Limits window provides a comparison of the configured limits to those currently in effect in a tabular format. Each row is labeled for the balance term that the limits apply to, from ST1 to XT3. The columns are described in the table below.

For more information on the configurable fields, refer to AVEVA Pipeline Operations for Liquids Administrator documentation.

Column

Description

Configured Alarm Type

The alarm type configured by the Administrator for the term. Alarm Types can be either Volume, Voting, Switching, or Percent flow.

Active Alarm Type

The alarm type currently in operation by the plm record. If a Switching type of alarm is selected, this field will display either Voting or Percent flow, depending on the current cumulative flow rate of all input meters assigned to the plm record.

Adjusted Over Limit - Volume

Actual over limit, Volume type. If the Pipeline Monitoring (plm) record is in Steady state, this will equal the value of Configured Over Limit - Volume.

Note: If the Active Alarm Type value of an entry is Percent flow, the Adjusted Over Limit - Volume value is calculated as follows:
Embedded Image (65% Scaling) (LIVE)

Adjusted Over Limit - % Flow

Actual over limit, Percent Flow type. If the plm record is in Steady state, this will equal the value of Configured Over Limit - Percent (%) Flow.

Configured Over Limit - Volume

This can be configured. It is the volume limit type that, if exceeded, will trigger an alarm.

Configured Over Limit - % Flow

This can be configured. Percent Flow limit type that, if exceeded, will trigger an alarm.

Adjusted Short Limit - Volume

Actual short limit, Volume type. If the plm record is in Steady state, this will equal the value of Configured Short Limit - Volume.

Note: If the Active Alarm Type value of an entry is Percent flow, the Adjusted Short Limit - Volume value is calculated as follows:

Adjusted Short Limit - % Flow

Actual over limit, Percent Flow type. If the plm record is in Steady state, this will equal the value of Configured Short Limit - % Flow.

Configured Short Limit - Volume

This can be configured. Volume limit type that, if exceeded (in a negative direction), will trigger an alarm.

Configured Short Limit - % Flow

This can be configured. Percent Flow limit type that, if exceeded (in a negative direction), will trigger an alarm.

Suspend Dynamic Alm Lim

This field can be updated by you. If set, the Dynamic Alarm Limit utility is disabled for the balance period.

Transient State

This field indicates that the PLM alarm limits have been altered by the Dynamic Alarm Limit application and are not at their steady state values.

Max. Bad Deviations

This field indicates the maximum amount of bad deviations allowed before PLM will go into an alarm.
