Understand Pipeline Monitor (PLM) Alarm Suppression

Note: The Pipeline Monitor (PLM) application supports scenarios where both Alarm Suppression and PLM Voting are configured. However, Alarm Suppression and Dynamic Alarming are mutually exclusive—if Dynamic Alarming triggers are specified, Alarm Suppression will be automatically disabled.

For Alarm Suppression purposes, the following PLM States can be used: NORMAL, ALARM, SUSPEND, NO-CALC, METER-ERROR, STALE-RECORD, RECORD-RESET, PIPELINE-RESET, ALARM-RESET, UNIT-P-MISMATCH, ST-1, ST-2, ST-3, LT-1, LT-2, LT-3, XT-1, XT-2, and XT-3.

The Pipeline Monitor (PLM) application employs "Alarm Suppression" similar to the Analog and Status tables to suppress nuisance alarms. Any number of analog or status points can be specified so that commands to any of these devices, or uncommanded changes of state in these devices, suppress alarming for the associated plm record for a specified time-out period. These points are configured through the Alarm Suppression (almsuppression) RealTime Database (RTDB) table, located in the following pathway in the Advanced Database Editor (ADE): View > Realtime. The PLM system suppresses alarms (including Return-to-Normal alarms) for the period defined after a command has been issued, or a state change has occurred for any of the devices listed. Logging remains in effect during this time. Any pass of PLM after the defined time-out period causes AVEVA Enterprise SCADA to generate new alarms and Return-to-Normal alarms.
