AVEVA Pipeline Operations for Liquids

Understand tank data quality

Data quality is uncertain if the following occurs:

  • A Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) goes offscan.

  • A communication line goes down.

  • The tank level cannot be read for any other reason.

If a tank is in the process of filling, and the RTU reading the tank level goes offscan, the data shown on the display may be inaccurate. easy eXtended Operator Station (ezXOS) displays such data in reverse video to indicated its stale nature. When the RTU comes back on-line, the application updates the tank level after AVEVA Enterprise SCADA once again scans the RTU.

After long communication interruptions, the counters may be inaccurate. This might occur if, during a communication failure, the tank level rises above, then falls below, the last accurate reading. The Tanking application assumes that the tank level only fell, and the volume from the rise in tank level is lost.
