Term

Description

Adjusted MOP

The Adjusted Maximum Operating Pressure (MOP) is a calculated value based on the MOP of the pipe segment and adjusted for the elevation at each profile point.

Anomaly

An anomaly is a mark used by the Batch Tracking application to track a Point of Interest (POI) in the fluid stream. An anomaly displaces a negligible volume, but moves through the pipeline system together with the batches. This may be a pig or an abnormality in the batch.

Batch

A batch is a movement of a product, crude oil, or chemical feedstock consisting of only one product type.

Before MOP

Before Maximum Operating Pressure (MOP) Limit.

Note: If the difference between a pipe segment's MOP and the pressure at any profile point on that segment is less than the Before MOP threshold value, an alarm is issued for that segment.

Fragment

A fragment is a contiguous portion of a batch that exists in one pipe segment. A batch consists of one or more fragments, depending on the number of pipe segments that it currently spans.

Linepost

A linepost is a distance indicator in miles or kilometers.

Node

A node is a location on the pipeline system that is connected to one or more pipe segments.

Pipe Section

A pipe section consists of one or more pipe segments grouped together as required for Controller convenience. Linepack values are summed for all the pipe segments in a pipe section.

Pipe Segment

A pipe segment is a piece of pipe with constant capacity and uniform characteristics, such as pipe wall thickness and outer diameter. Pipe segments must be joined either to other pipe segments or to nodes.
