Configure the Reflex (reflex) record for Action Sequences

A Reflex (reflex) record is configured using the reflex Row Edit dialog.

To configure the reflex record for Action Sequences

  1. Expand the reflex Table Edit from the Advanced Database Editor (ADE), and double-click the desired record to open.

The reflex Row Edit dialog appears.

The record name will be displayed in the Name field.

(Optional) A description for the record will be displayed in the Description field.

  2. To designate the reflex record as safety related, select the Safety Related checkbox.

  3. (Optional) In the Group field, click (...) and select the name of the Group record from the Group Select dialog.

  4. (Optional) In the Dataset field, click (...) and select the name of the Dataset record from the Dataset Select dialog.

  5. In the Base Message field, click (...) and select the message associated with the record from the Message Select dialog.

  6. (Optional) Select the Inhibit checkbox to indicate the Reflex Monitor is disabled (non-functional) for the record.

Note: If the Inhibit checkbox has been selected, the configured Action Sequences will not execute even if the value of the Trigger field changes to match the Required Trigger State. The Action Sequences will also not execute if the Inhibit checkbox is cleared while the value of the Trigger path matches the Required Trigger State.

Selecting the checkbox while the Trigger value matches the Required Trigger State (that is, the Reflex is currently waiting for the Data Quality of the trigger to improve or is counting down) does not prevent execution.

  7. In the Reflex Type dropdown, select Action Sequence.

Note: When a Reflex Type is selected, fields that are relevant to the specified Reflex Type will become enabled and available for editing. Other fields will be disabled and ignored by the Reflex Monitor even if they contain values.

If the selected Action Sequence is deleted after the reflex record has been saved, a configuration error is introduced and the reflex record Data Quality will transition from Fresh to Error.

  8. In the Trigger field, select (...).

The Input Trigger Path Selector dialog appears.

Note: This field specifies the AVEVA Pipeline Operations for Liquids RealTime point used to trigger execution of the Action Sequences. It uses a path format, and it is filtered to only allow selection of an ALPConfig, status, multistate or valve record in the RealTime Database (RTDB).

    1. Make a selection from the Table dropdown.

    2. Make a selection from the Record dropdown.

    3. Make a selection from the Field dropdown.

    4. Click Accept.

  9. In the Required Trigger State field, click (...) to select the proper output value of the ALPConfig record, or the state of the status, multistate, or valve record. When the Trigger input value enters the Required Trigger State, the Action Sequences will execute.

  10. From the Trigger Quality Threshold dropdown select the minimum Data Quality of the Trigger input that initiates the Reflex Action Sequence(s).

If the input Data Quality does not meet or exceed the specified threshold, the input will not trigger the Reflex Monitor even if its value matches the Required Trigger State. If you want your reflex record to ignore data quality, set the Trigger Quality Threshold to Error, which indicates that any reported threshold is acceptable. The Trigger Quality Threshold values (listed highest order of magnitude to lowest) are the following:

    • Fresh

    • Offscan

    • Stale and Onscan

    • Manual

    • Error

Note: If the data quality improves while the Trigger input is the Required Trigger State such that the Reflex Monitor should be executed, then the Action Sequences will be initiated at that time, still observing a Timeout, if configured.

  11. (Optional) In the Timeout (sec) field, specify the minimum amount of time (in seconds) that the Trigger needs to remain in the Required Trigger State before the Action Sequences will execute.

If the trigger exits the Required Trigger State before the Timeout expires, then the pending execution of the Action Sequences is canceled.

Any modifications to the reflex record that are made during the Timeout period are not evaluated. For example, if the reflex record is inhibited during a Timeout, this modification does not take effect until the current countdown is completed or canceled by a change in Trigger State.

Third-party applications can override the value set in the Timeout field. For more information about setting an override value, refer to the AVEVA Pipeline Operations for Liquids Developer Guide.

Note: A value of 0 indicates that the Reflex Monitor application should execute the configured Action Sequences immediately. Only positive values may be entered into the Timeout field.

  12. (Optional) In the Action Sequence field(s), click (...) and select the name of the ActionSequence record from the Action Sequence Select dialog.

Note: When the Trigger enters the desired state while surpassing the Trigger Quality Threshold and remains there for the duration of the Timeout, the configured Action Sequences will be executed. Action Sequences are triggered sequentially within milliseconds of each other but will execute in parallel once triggered. For more information, see Action Sequence.
