The selected valve record will represent a collection of real valves in the field if the Valve Type is configured as a Logical Valve. The current state is determined by the AVEVA Enterprise SCADA system.
When the Valve Type is configured as a Logical Valve:
-
A Connection Type can be configured.
-
The Path cannot be configured. (There is no underlying multistate or status record. Logical valves cannot be commanded through the AVEVA Enterprise SCADA system. They are only available to group valves.)
-
You cannot set the logical state (State Configuration) of the valve.
-
Command Open cannot be configured.
-
Command Close cannot be configured.
-
Command Stop cannot be configured.
-
You cannot set a Logic Excluded Mode Time Out.
-
Inhibits can be configured.
-
If child valves of a logical valve enter an Error or Stopped state, the parent valve will use the last known good state of the child valves.
-
If no child valves are associated with a logical valve, the following will occur:
-
The logical valve is marked as Stale.
-
The Error flag is set.
-
The state of the logical valve is set to Error as defined in the associated message set (value of 0).
-
To configure a logical valve
-
Open the valve record. For more information on opening a valve record, see Opening the Valve Record.
The valve Row Edit dialog appears.

-
From the Valve Type dropdown list, select Logical Valve.
-
Optional: In the Parent Valve field, select (...).
The Parent valve dialog appears.

-
Select the Name of the Parent valve record. Select Accept.
-
In the Connection Type field, select Series or Parallel. For more information, see Understand connection types.
-
Optional: In the Description field, enter the valve description.
-
Optional: In the Station field, select (...) to configure the valve station.
-
Optional: In the Point Class field, select (...) to configure the valve point class.
-
Optional: In the Point SubClass field, select (...) to configure the valve point sub class.
Note:The Point Class field is used to allow the Administrator to configure alarm severity. For further information about the Point Class and Point SubClass fields, refer to Volume 1 of the RealTime Administrator documentation.
-
Optional: In the Short Description field, enter a short description for the valve.
-
Optional: In the Well Unit field, enter the well unit for the valve.
-
Optional: In the Priority Display field, enter the priority display for the valve.
Note: If a valve record is automatically created by the Flow Network, the Priority Display configuration of the underlying status/multistate record will be inherited. Administrators and Controllers can later change the Priority Display field on the valve or the underlying record independent of each other.
-
Optional: In the Display Order field, enter the display order for the valve.
-
Save the record.
-
If the selected Parent Valve was not a synthetic or logical valve, you will receive a warning, and the record will not be saved.

Note: For Logical Valves, Inhibits can be configured from the Inhibits tab.
