Configure the Flow Network tab of the Pump record

  • Last UpdatedApr 24, 2025
  • 3 minute read

The Flow Network tab contains the configuration information that must be supplied when the pump is intended to work in conjunction with a Flow Network. If, however, the pump is not being used within a Flow Network, but the Flow Network tab is filled out, the configuration associated with the Flow Network will not have an impact on the pump’s functioning. For more information about setting up the Flow Network Route, see Flow Network.

Description

Pump Blocked Rule

This option allows a Controller to define when a pump is considered to be in a blocked state within a Flow Network. One of the following options can be selected:

  • Upstream or Downstream Blocked — The pump is considered to be blocked unless both an entry terminal and an exit terminal can be reached in opposing directions.

  • Downstream Blocked — The pump is considered to be blocked unless a flow path to a downstream (based on the apparent direction of flow) terminal exists.

  • Upstream Blocked — The pump is considered to be blocked unless a flow path to an upstream (based on the apparent direction of flow) terminal exists.

  • Disable Automatic Shutdown — The pump is never considered to be blocked by the Line Blockage Application and will never be automatically shut down.

Minimum Downstream Capacity

If a rule for the pump is selected that involves downstream blockage checking, then the pump may still be considered blocked even if the path is open, unless the configured Minimum Downstream Capacity is supported by pipe segments between the pump and exit terminals.

This is only available if Upstream or Downstream Blocked or Downstream Blocked pump rule has been selected.

Line Closed Shutdown Delay

If any valve in a Flow Network enters a fully closed state unexpectedly and its closure results in a blockage for the pump, the Line Blockage Application will wait the configured number of seconds before executing the configured Shutdown Sequence.

If a value of zero is configured, the pump will be shut down immediately upon an unexpected blockage from a closed valve.

This option is not available if Pump Blocked Rule is configured as Disable Automatic Shutdown.

Commanded Controller valve closures and station shutdowns are not affected by this delay.

Line Closing Shutdown Delay

If any valve in a Flow Network enters a transitional state of closing unexpectedly and its closure would result in a blockage for the pump, the Line Blockage Application will wait the configured number of seconds before executing the configured Shutdown Sequence.

If a value of zero is configured, the pump will be shut down immediately upon an unexpected blockage from a closing valve.

This option is not available if Pump Blocked Rule is configured as Disable Automatic Shutdown.

Commanded Controller valve closures and station shutdowns are not affected by this delay.

Unexpected Start Shutdown Delay

If a pump is blocked and shuts down and starts unexpectedly (the start is not performed from the AVEVA Enterprise SCADA system), Line Blockage will wait the configured number of seconds before executing the configured Shutdown Sequence.

If a value of zero is configured, the pump will be shut down immediately upon an unexpected start when blocked.

This option is not available if Pump Blocked Rule is configured as Disable Automatic Shutdown.

Commanded Controller valve closures and station shutdowns are not affected by this delay.

Shutdown Sequence

An action sequence that defines how this pump should be shut down when a blockage occurs. If no sequence is selected, then the pump will not be automatically shut down.
