AVEVA Pipeline Operations for Liquids

Summary of tank messages and alarms

  • Last UpdatedApr 24, 2025
  • 7 minute read

Depending on your setup, your Alarm Summary display may have a different appearance. These displays are provided by your Administrator to accommodate your organization’s unique needs.

If the record has been designated as safety-related, and the Administrator has selected an associated severity, the message on the Alarm and Event Summary will be prefaced with (SAFETY).

Alarms and events containing level information use the level fraction format specified using the Display Level Format configuration field. For more information, refer to the AVEVA Pipeline Operations for Liquids Administrators Guide documentation.

The following table summarizes the Tanking Management application messages and alarms.

Description

Recommended User Response

<Current Level Alarm State> from <Previous Level Alarm State> - Level = <Current Tank Level> <Units> (<Current Level Alarm State> state), [Limit = <Level Alarm Limit>].

This is the alarm that is displayed when the tank has reached or exceeded one of the following levels:

  • HiHi

  • LoLo

  • Hi

  • Lo

  • Normal Fill

  • Normal Empty

This alarm is also displayed when the tank is in the following abnormal states:

  • Instrument fail high

  • Instrument fail low

Check to ensure that there are no issues with your tank.

User Alarm Limit – Level = <Current Tank Level> <Units> (<Current Level Alarm State> state), [Limit = <User Level Alarm Limit>].

This is the alarm that is displayed when the tank has reached or exceeded one of the following levels:

  • User Hi

  • User Lo

This is a user-defined alarm, displayed when the tank has reached the level that the user has defined as an alarm state. Knowing what your Administrator has designed the alarming scheme to represent will help you understand how to respond.

<alarm state> - Violation Count = <current violation count>, Level = <level> <level units}> Last Level = <last level>, Volume = <volume> <volume units>, Last Volume = <last volume>, Limit = <Deviation Alarm Limit>.

This event is generated when CreepAlarmSuppression is enabled and a violation of its rules occurs.

This event indicates that an idle tank is experiencing level or volume creep (depending on the selected Deviation Type) that exceeds the Deviations defined in the Tank Alarm Limits dialog. This alarm message always shows both level and volume values.

The alarm state represents the base message state value which by default is set to DEVIATION.

Check to see if there are any issues with your idle tank.

<alarm state> - Level = <level> <level units>, Last Level = <last level>, Volume <volume> <volume units>, last Volume = <last volume>, Limit = <Deviation Alarm Limit>.

This alarm and event indicates that an idle tank is experiencing level or volume creep (depending on selected Deviation Type) that exceeds the Deviations defined on the Tank Alarm Limits dialog. This alarm message always shows both level and volume values.

The alarm state represents the base message state value which by default is set to DEVIATION.

Check to see if there are any issues with your idle tank.

Tank [Tank Name] full warning.

TNK_WARNING_FULL

Indicates that the tank is full.

No response required.

Tank [Tank Name] empty warning.

TNK_WARNING_EMPTY

Indicates that the tank is empty.

No response required.

Tank <full or empty> <Configured Warning time to completion> warning.

Warning time alarm for filling or emptying a tank.

No response required.

ROC - Volume = <Current Tank Volume> <Units> (ROC state), Last Volume = <Previous Tank Volume>, ROC = <current rate of change> <Units>, [Filling Limit <Filling Limit>] <Units>, [Emptying Limit <Emptying Limit>] <Units>.

Rate of change (ROC) checking has indicated that the tank flow rate has exceeded the specified filling or emptying ROC limits.

No response required; however, you may want to check that there are no issues with your tank.

No idle device configured.

If you have enabled the auto idle, but there are no idle devices configured, a non-persistent alarm will be generated to notify you that the tank has not been properly configured for successful auto idle operations.

Contact your Administrator about correcting the configuration error.

Comparison Operator is not configured for row <Row Number>.

If you have enabled auto idle, but the point type has been set incorrectly, a non-persistent alarm will be generated to indicate that invalid point type is configured for the specific row.

Contact your Administrator about correcting the configuration error.

Invalid point configured for row <Row Number>.

If auto idle has been enabled, the associated record listed in the Path field cannot be found.

Contact your Administrator about correcting the configuration error.

Invalid field. type configured for row <Number>.

If auto idle has been enabled, the field type selected for the database path setting is not a double or float data type. This condition only applies to analog, rate, virtualflowcomputer, or batchXfer records.

Contact your Administrator about correcting the configuration error.

Invalid state configured for row <Number>.

If auto idle has been enabled, this message indicates that the state selected is invalid for the status or multistate point being evaluated.

Contact your Administrator about correcting the configuration error.

Configured limits exceed max strap level: <Name of the Limit that Exceeds the Max Strap Level>.

If any of the values entered into the Alarming Limits, Maximum Physical Limit or Maximum and Minimum Safe Limits fields exceed the largest value entered in the strapping table, this alarm will indicate that there is a misconfiguration. This, along with all other alarms in the Invalid Limits Category, is a persistent alarm.

Contact your Administrator about correcting the configuration error.

A configuration error occurred during volume correction processing for Tank <Tank Name>: Please check log for more information.

A configuration error occurred during volume correction processing for the specified tank. For example, an invalid Correction Library was selected in the Product Group (prodgroup) record.

Please check oasErrLog.log for more information, and then contact your Administrator about correcting the configuration error.

A calculation error occurred during volume correction processing for Tank <Tank Name>: Please check log for more information.

A calculation error occurred during volume correction processing for the specified tank. For example, a temperature reading used for calculating correction factors is out of range.

Please check oasErrLog.log for more information, and then contact your Administrator about correcting the configuration error.

The Volume Calculation error for Tank <Tank Name> has been resolved.

The previous error that triggered a Configuration or Calculation Alarm for tank volume correction has been resolved and the condition has returned to normal.

No response required.

Unable to update volume/level for tank: <Tank Name>.

This alarm indicates that the system could not update the volume/level for tank. It occurs whenever a volume or level value is retrieved that is below zero or above the maximum strap level.

Note: An Instrument failure condition takes precedence over this message. That is, if a reading has exceeded the configured Maximum Physical Level, the tank record is treated as being in instrument failure and you will only see the instrument failure alarm.

Please check oasErrLog.log for more information and then contact your Administrator to make sure that the input volume is within the limits of the strap table.

The error in updating volume/level for tank [Tank Name] has been resolved.

Issues retrieving volume and/or level values have been successfully resolved and the condition has returned to normal.

No response required.

Flowrate Smoothing Factor is expected to be greater than 0 and less than or equal to 1, current value is <Current Smoothing Factor>.

This alarm is displayed when the tank has an invalid Smoothing Factor configured.

Contact your Administrator about correcting the configuration error.

Flowrate Smoothing Factor has changed to a valid value.

This alarm is displayed when the tank’s Smoothing Factor returns to a valid configuration.

No action required.
