Simulations are intended to account for situations such as failed communication to the remote or other problems that prevent polled data from being retrieved. This allows you to simulate a manual counter, based on the information they have on the flow rate that occurs in the field. When the Virtual Flow Computer (VFC) is in Simulate mode, a keyboard appears in the Current State field on the Virtual Flow Computer Control window.
In instances when there is no data coming in from the device, you can simulate a flow rate for a defined time period. For information about how to start a simulation with a VFC, see Starting a Virtual Flow Computer (VFC) meter simulation.
During the simulation, the Gross Standard Volume (GSV) of the VFC will be calculated using the flow rate (GS Flow Rate) specified in the Virtual Computer Simulation dialog.

Note: The associated VFC accumulators will not poll from the related rate points during a simulation. Instead, the VFC process will evenly distribute the flow rate, GSV, Gross Volume (GV), and Indicated Volume (IV) to the associated uninhibited accumulators. Once the simulation is completed or stopped, the accumulators will retain the GSV, GV, and IV accumulated during the simulation and will return to polling the related rate points.
