Pipeline Monitor (PLM) instantaneous or current balance

Pipeline Monitor (PLM) instantaneous or current balance

This refers to the balance for the minute that has just elapsed. There are several steps to this.

  1. Calculate the volume changes for each type of device for the minute. Totals will be in the following categories:

    • Meters measuring flow into the region (In meters).

    • Meters measuring flow out of the region (Out meters).

    • Linefills

    • Tanks

    • Delta flow

This is Out meters minus In meters.

  2. From the device volume change totals, get the raw balance.

For more information, see Pipeline Monitor (PLM) basic volumetric variance formula.

  3. From the raw balance and the smoothed balance calculated on the previous minute, get the current smoothed balance.

For more information, see Pipeline Monitor (PLM) deviation filtering.
