A Point of Interest (POI) can optionally be added as part of the definition of a Flow Network model. A POI identifies a specific location on the Flow Network that can be leveraged by applications that have an interest in knowing when a change of state occurs at that location.
Each POI is attached to an underlying status or multistate point. This point can be toggled by internal or external applications to indicate an abnormal condition such as a leak or a blockage. When the point is toggled to indicate that an abnormal condition is in effect, an application monitoring the POI can leverage the location information provided by the POI and the connectivity information provided by the Flow Network model to react appropriately.
