On the Remote Input tab, select (...) next to the Remote field to configure the remote devices attached to the tank by and inputting its properties into the below fields. The alarm deadbands for the remote device can also be configured on this tab.
To configure the Remote Input tab on the Tank Record
-
Open the tank record. For more information on opening a tank record, see Opening the Tank Record.
The tank Row Edit dialog appears.

-
Select the Remote Input tab.
The Remote Input tab appears.

-
From the Source Type dropdown list, select the source input for the tank. The possible choices are the following:
-
Direct Field Source. This selection will enable the controls within the Direct Field Source area. When this option is enabled, the tank will directly poll the Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) for the amount of product that the source contains.
-
OASyS RealTime Source. This selection will enable the controls within the OASyS RealTime Source area. The tank will collect the value in the configured analog or rtstring record as the amount of product the tank contains.
-
-
If the OASyS RealTime Source is selected as the Source Type, in the RealTime Source field, click (...) to select the path to the RealTime row that contains the tank level or volume. This path can be either an analog or an rtstring row.
-
From the Remote Type dropdown list, select the type or RTU. The possible choices are as follows:
-
Level (incr). The RTU returns information about the level in the tank.
-
GO volume. The RTU returns information about the Gross Observed Volume (GOV) in the tank.
-
GSvolume. The RTU returns information about the Gross Standard Volume (GSV) in the tank.
-
Lvl (eng units). The RTU returns information on the level in eng units (for example, 3.528m).
-
Lvl (Gray code). The RTU returns information on the level increments in gray code. Gray code is a binary encoding of numbers such that adjacent numbers have a single binary digit differing by one (1).
-
-
From the Input Level Fraction dropdown list, select the fraction used by the Remote Device to report information on the level of the tank. The Input Level Fraction option only applies when the Remote Type is set to Level.
The possible options for Input Level Fraction are as follows:
-
1000th foot
-
100th foot
-
1/32 inch
-
1/16 inch
-
1/8 inch
-
1/4 inch
-
1/2 inch
-
1 inch
-
100th meter
-
millimeter
-
rawindex
Note: This configuration is independent from the format of the value used for display purposes and the format used for Tank Strapping purposes. For more information, see Understand Input Level Fraction, Strapping Fraction, and Display Level Format .
-
-
From the Remote field, click (...) to select the name of the remote record corresponding to the RTU associated with the tank. If this field is left blank, no level data is read from the field, and the Controller will have to manually enter level data.
-
From the Point Type dropdown list, select the data type of the point. The possible options for Point Type are as follows:
-
Undefined
-
Unsign 16 int
-
Signed 16 int
-
Unsign 32 int
-
Signed 32 int
-
Float
-
Double
Note: AVEVA can integrate other data types into the system upon request.
-
-
From the Input Type dropdown list, select the input value type. The The possible options for Input Type are as follows:
-
Telemetered
-
Calculated
-
Manual Entry
-
-
In the Input Coordinates field, enter the appropriate number or string. This mapping depends on the protocol used. Refer to your specific remote or protocol documentation for a definition of the data mappings and the determination of the remote’s analog input data location in memory.
-
To enable Instrument Failure alarming, select the Instrument Failure checkbox.
-
If you want the Tanking application to convert raw instrument electrical values from this point to Engineering Units (EGUs), select the Convert Raw to EGU checkbox.
-
In the appropriate field, enter the instrument’s lower operating limits.
Minimum (raw)
The instrument’s raw lower operating limits.
Maximum (raw)
The instrument’s raw upper operating limits.
Minimum (EGU)
The lowest measurable values of the instrument in EGUs.
Maximum (EGU)
The highest measurable values of the instrument in EGUs.
DeadbandException Deadband
The exception deadband. This indicates how much an acquired value must change before the value is sent up to the host. For example, a deadband value of 10 means that only values at least 10 raw counts higher or lower than the last value sent will be transferred to the host. This can only be used for remotes that support reporting analogs by exception.
