AVEVA Pipeline Operations for Liquids

Select the Correction Library and table options

There are four baseline correction library options, each designed to meet different needs:

  • API 2004

  • API 1980

  • REFPROP Volume

  • REFPROP Mass

API 2004, the most readily used Correction Library, is the default option. The methods used in API 2004 reflect the recommendations of the American Petroleum Institute according to the API Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards in 2004.

API 1980 uses the methods specified by the American Petroleum Institute in 1980. This option is provided for customers that have been using this or a similar standard and want new data generated by AVEVA Pipeline Operations for Liquids to be calculated following the API 1980.

The NIST REFPROP methods, used to calculate volume and mass for batch tracking applications, are supplied by the Reference Fluid Thermodynamic and Transport Properties Database created by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

The NIST REFPROP is used to account for the following circumstances:

  • REFPROP Volume and REFPROP Mass Correction Libraries do not perform correction on the product groups in their care. It is assumed that Product Groups using REFPROP Volume or Mass are receiving information that has already had the essential corrections performed.

  • REFPROP is only used in conjunction with the Batch Tracking application. As the batch quantity information obtained from Batch Tracking from an external source is assumed to be corrected, no further calculations are performed. Using this information, Batch Tracking determines the linefill of the batch, by taking the corrected quantity and determining how much of the pipe is occupied by the batch at an existing temperature and pressure conditions. Through this calculation, the corrected quantity is converted into an observed one.

Note: The REFPROP Volume and Mass options are designed only to be used in conjunction with Batch Tracking. If they are used in conjunction with any other application (for example, the Tanking or Virtual Flow Computer applications), the user will receive an error message.

The Correction Tables used in conjunction with the API Correction Libraries are discussed further in Work with Product Groups.

For scenarios where other libraries or standards need to be supported, AVEVA Pipeline Operations for Liquids provides the capability to use a custom calculation library using the Volume Corrections plugin. For more information, refer to the AVEVA Pipeline Operations for Liquids Developer Guide.
