Using the Roof tab, you can input the properties of the tank’s roof so that the Tanking application can adjust its calculations for accuracy. Other external factors that impact the tank volume, such as snow weight, can also be configured using this tab. Many sections of this tab are only relevant if the tank has a floating roof.
To configure the Roof tab of the tank record
-
Open the tank record. For more information on opening a tank record, see Opening the Tank Record.
The tank Row Edit dialog appears.

-
Select the Roof tab.
The Roof tab appears.

-
(Optional) If you want the Tanking application to compensate for the weight of the tank roof, select the Correct for Roof checkbox. This selection enables the following fields:
-
In the Low Float Point field, enter the level at which the roof starts to float. The Tanking application will start roof corrections (if Correct for Roof is selected) once the tank level rises above this height.
-
In the High Float Point field, enter the alternate level at which the roof starts to float. This is typically used when servicing the legs in the tank.
-
From the Which Point dropdown list, select whether the Tanking application should use the Low Float Point value (Low) or the High Float Point value (High).
-
From the Weight Units dropdown list, select the units that will be used to measure the weight of the roof.
-
-
(Optional) If you want the Tanking application to assume that the strapping tables do not have the roof weight already taken into account, select the Use Roof Weight checkbox. In this case, the Roof Weight field must be filled in.
If the Use Roof Weight checkbox is not selected, the Tanking application assumes that the Strapping tables do have the roof weight already taken into account. In this case, the Gravity Correction Factor (GCF) and Strapping Table Density fields must be filled in.
-
(Optional) If the Use Roof Weight checkbox is selected, in the Roof Weight field, enter the weight of the roof.
-
(Optional) If Use Roof Weight checkbox is not selected, in the Gravity Correction Factor field, enter the Gravity Correction Factor (GCF) that was used when the strapping table was calculated with the roof weight. This factor converts the Strapping Table Density to the current density.
-
(Optional) If Use Roof Weight checkbox is not selected, in the Strapping Table Density field, enter the American Petroleum Institute (API) density at which the Strapping table was measured. The Tanking application uses this and the GCF to calculate the gross volume of the tank.
-
(Optional) If you want the Tanking application to compensate for snow on the tank, select the Use Snow Load checkbox. This selection enables the following fields:
-
From the Correction Method dropdown list, select the method at which the Tanking application compensates for the weight of the tank roof.
-
In the Snow Weight field, enter the estimated weight of snow on the tank roof. This correction is applied at the same time, and in the same manner, as the roof weight correction.
-
In the Snow Level field, enter the gauge offset due to snow on the tank roof. This correction is applied when the raw tank gauge is read.
