The Action Sequence Decision Step type is used to evaluate a logical expression consisting of an input path, a comparison operator, and either a comparison value or another input path. Configure an Action Sequence Decision type step using the Action Sequence Designer.

The Action Sequence Decision Step dialog appears as follows:

To configure an Action Sequence Decision Step:

  1. Open the Action Sequence Designer for the Action Sequence of interest. For more information on how to open the Action Sequence Designer, see Open an Action Sequence in the Action Sequence Designer.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • Insert a new Action Sequence Decision Step into the Action Sequence. For more information on how to insert an Action Sequence Step into an Action Sequence, see Insert new Action Sequence Steps.

    • Identify the existing Action Sequence Decision Step to be modified.

  3. In the Name field, enter a unique name for the step record in the Sequence Step (sequenceStep) table.

Note: This name is automatically generated. By default, the Name field in the step appends the Action Sequence (actionSequence) record name to it.

  4. In the Point field, click (...) to select the RealTime point path (table and record) on which the operation is to take place.

For more information about how to select a pathway, refer to Volume 1 of the RealTime Administrator documentation.

  5. In the Wait for condition (sec) field, enter a value in seconds.

The Action Sequence will proceed according to the following logic:

    • If the Decision Step evaluates to True, the Action Sequence will proceed to execute steps in the True execution path.

    • If the Decision Step evaluates to False, the Action Sequence will pause until the Decision Step evaluates to True or the wait interval expires.

    • If the wait interval expires before the Decision Step evaluates to True, the Action Sequence will proceed to execute steps in the False execution path.

Note: If Wait For (sec) is set to zero (0), the step will wait until the Decision Step evaluates to True.

  6. Optional: Select the Disable checkbox to prevent the step from waiting for the time interval entered in the Wait for condition field to expire before proceeding to the next step.

  7. Optional: Link the new Action Sequence step to existing steps to construct the Action Sequence. For more information on linking Action Sequence steps, see Link Action Sequence Steps.

Note: You can configure failure paths for Decision steps by linking the step Failure port to the In port of the first step of Action Sequence failure path. For more information, see Link Action Sequence Steps to failure paths.

  8. Select Save to save the changes to the Action Sequence.
