Understand Product Compatibility product source and zone selection

To ensure that the alarming associated with the Product Checking application is accurate, there are several zoning concepts within product compatibility that help define which products are compared and which products are ignored.
All options are configurable through the Advanced Database Editor (ADE) for each individual product compatibility rule, although different source types may use different configuration options.
Each Product Compatibility source receives its information from one of the following sources:
-
Tank
-
Batch Transfer
-
Pipeline
Pipeline type configurations use a pipe segment, a milepost, an upstream zone and a downstream zone to generate a list of products. The use of these zones is described in the figure below:

You will select a pipe segment that exists on a pipeline within the RealTime database (RTDB), and configure a milepost that exists within the pipe segment. The upstream zone and downstream zone are configured as volumes that pivot around the milepost location. All products within this volume region are then used in the product compatibility rule.
Batch transfer type configurations uses a Batch Transfer, an Upstream Zone and an Exclusion Zone to generate a list of products. This list is compiled from the current active and pending tickets. As neither milepost nor downstream zones are applicable to a batch line in a batch transfer, these values are ignored. The use of these zones is described in the figure below:

Both the Upstream Zone and the Exclusion Zone start from what is currently running through the batch transfer and traverse backwards through the batch line up. However, products in the Exclusion zone are ignored.
For this reason, the size of the Upstream Zone for batch transfers should always be a greater number than the size of the Exclusion Zone. If both the Upstream Zone and the Exclusion Zone are zero, then only the current active product through the batch transfer is considered.
If a Tank is configured as a source, then the product selected for compatibility checking is the current product within the tank, as a single tank cannot have multiple products.
If a Virtual Flow Computer (VFC) is configured as a source, then the product selected for compatibility checking is the current product in the VFC.
