AVEVA Pipeline Operations for Liquids

Understand Action Sequence message sets

  • Last UpdatedApr 24, 2025
  • 2 minute read

The AVEVA Pipeline Operations for Liquids installation includes a default Action Sequence message set that can be used on all station shutdown records created within the RealTime database (RTDB). A project can also create custom message sets or alter this message set as they see fit. For full functionality, a message set must have 12 entries to provide support for all Action Sequence states.

Each row of the message set is applied to a particular state for the actionSequence record. The following table describes the Action Sequence message sets.

Number

Message Set Use

Description

0

IDLE

This state is used to indicate that the sequence has not been executed since the last time it was enabled.

1

EXECUTING

This state is used to indicate that the sequence has been started and is currently executing (in progress).

2

CANCELLED

This state is used to indicate that, for the last run of the sequence, the Controller stopped it before it was complete.

3

FAILED

This state is used to indicate that, for the last run of the sequence, the sequence failed to complete.

4

COMPLETED

This state is used to indicate that, for the last run of the sequence, the sequence completed successfully.

5

INHIBITED

This state is used to indicate that the record is inhibited.

6

MITIGATED

This state is used to indicate that the sequence experienced a failure on one or more steps, but a failure path existed, and was successfully executed.

7

INTERRUPTED

This state is used to indicate that the execution of the Action Sequence was interrupted by a mode switch, a failover, or the RealTime service shutdown.

8

PAUSING

This state indicates that the Controller has clicked Pause and the Action Sequence is waiting for the current step to finish.

9

PAUSED

This state indicates that the Controller has successfully paused the Action Sequence.

10

ARMED

This state is used to indicate that the Controller has armed the Action Sequence. An Action Sequence in the Armed state is ready for execution by the Controller.

11

DISARMED

This state is only used to configure the severity of an alarm generated by Action Sequence to indicate that an Action Sequence has been disarmed.

Note: This actual state name for this disarmed action is not displayed on the easy eXtended Operator Station (ezXOS), as this particular message is used only to configure the alarm severity for the disarm action.
