Configure a Synthetic valve

  • Last UpdatedApr 24, 2025

The selected valve record will represent a collection of real valves in the field if the Valve Type is configured as a Synthetic Valve.

When the Valve Type is configured as a Synthetic Valve:

  • A Connection Type can be configured.

  • The Path must be specified (underlying multistate or status record).

  • You can configure how each state of the underlying point in interpreted (State Configuration).

  • (Optional) Command Open may be configured if it is supported by the underlying point.

  • (Optional) Command Close may be configured if it is supported by the underlying point.

  • (Optional) Command Stop may be configured if it is supported by the underlying point.

  • You cannot set a Logic Excluded Mode Time Out.

  • Inhibits cannot be configured. Alarm and Event inhibit flags are configured on the underlying point.

To configure a Synthetic valve

  1. Open the valve record. For more information on opening a valve record, see Opening the Valve Record.

The valve Row Edit dialog appears.

  2. From the Valve Type dropdown list, select either Synthetic PLC-based or Synthetic SCADA host-based.

  3. (Optional) In the Priority Display field, enter the priority display for the valve.

Note: If a valve record is automatically created by the Flow Network, the Priority Display configuration of the underlying status/multistate record will be inherited. Administrators and Controllers can later change the Priority Display field on the valve or the underlying record independent of each other.

  4. (Optional) In the Parent Valve field, select (...).

    The Parent valve dialog appears.
