Valve telemetry

Each valve device in the Flow Network requires a record to exist in the valve table of the RealTime database (RTDB). Various information is collected from the valve record by the Flow Network including the current state of the valve, and its logical service state. The logical service state of the valve takes priority over its current state, so if the logical service state is set to out-of-service open or closed, it will define the valve as open or closed respectively. If the logical service state is out of logic, then the valve will be treated as open.

When the valve record has a logical service state of In Service, the Flow Network will use the current state to determine the valve’s position. Open and Closed states are used directly in the model, while Error or Stopped will use the last known state. Opening and Closing both allow product and flow to proceed through the segment but will condition the flow so that it is in either opening flow or closing flow state. This conditioning affects later calculations within the Flow Network as well as responses taken by applications such as Line Blockage. For more information, see Understand Flow Path State.
