The Batch Start command is issued when it is determined that the product arriving at the batch transfer location is to be assigned to a different batch. If the location is Remote Managed, the command is forwarded to the flow computer and no AVEVA Enterprise SCADA host processing is done.
To issue a Batch Start command for a Host-Managed location
-
The operation is validated by confirming that the following conditions are true:
-
The current active batch has been running longer than the configured minimum period.
-
The current active batch has reached a configured minimum volume.
-
If the assignment of an action sequence to the batch is required, there is an assigned and valid action sequence.
-
A scheduled batch is available for the location with the following fields correctly set:
-
Schedule sequence number
-
Batch ID
-
Product
-
Scheduled volume
Note: If any of the conditions are false, the operation is invalid.
If the operation is invalid, the following occurs:
— If the Batch Start was initiated by the Controller, the operation is canceled, and an error message is displayed.
— If the Batch Start was automatically initiated, a Batch Split is attempted. For more information on the Batch Split command, see Understand the Batch Split command.

If an active batch is present, a Batch Completion command is executed.
For more information, refer to Understand the Batch Completion command.
A new active batch is initialized with the following fields taken from the next entry from the schedule queue:
-
Schedule sequence number
-
Batch ID
-
Product
-
Scheduled volume
-
-
The schedule queue entry is flagged as activated.
-
Calculated or derived fields for the active batch are initialized:
-
Measurement units are set from the from the batchXfers unit profile. This includes volume, temperature, pressure, and density.
-
The contaminated flag is cleared.
-
Batch Gross Standard Volume (GSV), Gross Volume (GV), and Batch Flow Rate are set to zero.
-
Weighted Average Sediment, Water percentage, and Viscosity & Sulphur percentage are set to the observed values at the configured analogs.
-
Volume To Go is set equal to Scheduled Volume.
-
Hourly volume is set to zero.
-
Start time is set to current time, if the batch transfer is not configured to set start time when volume throughput for the batch is first observed.
-
Estimated completion time is blank.
-
-
Calculated or derived fields from each input device are initialized. Devices that are not enabled are not included.
-
For all types, Device Batch GSV, Batch GV, and Device Batch Flow Rate is set to zero.
-
For counter types:
-
Starting and current GSV counters are set to the GSV counter at the input device.
-
Starting and current Indicated Volume (IV) counters are set to the IV counter at the input device.
-
Weighted Average Temperature, Pressure, Densities, Observed Density, Meter Correction Factor (MCF), Weighted Average Correction for Temperature of a Liquid (CTL), and the Weighted Average Correction for Pressure of a Liquid (CPL) are set to the observed values at the input device.
-
The Meter Correction Factor is set to the MCF of the input device.
-
Correction inhibits from the input device are included.
-
-
For tank types:
-
Tank volume along with the measurements and parameters used to calculated that volume are saved to define the tank state at the start of the batch. These include the following:
-
GSV corrected tank volume
-
Gross Observed Volume (GOV) corrected tank volume
-
Liquid level (height of liquid)
-
Total Observed Volume (TOV) — Volume directly from the strapping table.
-
Snow load, as gauge or weight
-
Density
-
Liquid temperature
-
Ambient temperature
-
Shell temperature
-
Roof weight
-
Inhibits to any corrections

If Batch Aggregation is enabled on the Batch Transfer, the aggregation values for the previous batch are sent to the Historical database. The aggregation values for the new active batch will be reset to zero before they start accumulating data.
