Understand processing states of an Action Sequence

Once the Start command has been issued, the Action Sequence moves to the Executing state and processing begins. Processing normally begins with the first step in the sequence, although the Controller can select any step in the sequence as the starting point. While in the Executing state, each step is processed in sequence. The actual sequence followed depends on both the configured order and outcome of each step. A single sequence step itself goes through a series of states. For more information, see Understand Action Sequence step processing.

The Controller can choose to pause the sequence processing by selecting the Pause command. This will put the Action Sequence into a Pausing state. The current step will be allowed to complete and then no further processing will take place without a Controller command. If the step completes successfully, the Paused state results. If the step failed, the Failed state results and the sequence terminates.

When in the Paused state, the Controller has the option to do one of the following:

  • Return to the Executing state by issuing the Resume command. The processing commences on the next step after the paused step.

  • End the sequence process by issuing the Stop command. The Action Sequence moves to the Canceled state.
